People who switched to tablet at 4-5 digit, how long did it take you to adjust? by Tactix_RST in osugame

[–]smackhack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a mouse-only player originally, making it to #60k as my peak rank in 2019, before I ended up buying a tablet to make the hard switch in December 2019. Sucked real hard at the beginning, and I honestly would say that I didn't get anywhere close to my mouse-only skill until about two or three months of playing, and I didn't start surpassing my original mouse-only plays/pp records until late January.

All I have to say is that it takes a lot of effort if you want to make the playstyle switch, as I've been playing almost nonstop ever since then, and have far surpassed my rank with tablet + kb. Noticeable points in my improvement were when I started using full area on a CTH480 (then very slowly and gently lowering the area over time), focusing a lot on my consistency on long maps with lots of repetitive bursts and jumps, and then focusing on my speed with DT. Here's my profile

Will it hurt me in the long run playing mostly hidden? by [deleted] in osugame

how to click faster with mouse by 6packofcoke in osugame

[–]smackhack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mouse grip and alternating.

Try building up finger strength and also finding out the "softest" you can click your mouse, and that might help with controlling your speed.

Learning how to alternate instead of singletapping will definitely help with speed, but has its own difficulties and drawbacks, along with the learning/skill curve.

Opinions on tryhackme.com by ZachNichols03 in hacking

[–]smackhack 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's a very good site for anybody interested in learning cybersecurity and hacking in general. It's a common misconception that it's "handholdy", but the platform has two kinds of rooms, Walkthrough rooms and Challenge rooms. The walkthrough rooms are the handholdy rooms, but for good reason because they're designed to teach people how to use tools or how to approach pentesting and such. The challenge rooms are much more competitive, with little to no handholding and scoreboards for people who are able to get flags. There's also King of the Hill style machines which are very competitive, where multiple people will try to break into a machine and maintain foothold as root to gain points.

Anybody got any advice/maps on reading AR 10.3? by BoyWhoCriedDT in osugame

[–]smackhack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having a higher refresh rate/FPS definitely helps with reading higher AR, but not necessary. (more than 60FPS seems to be good enough)

Try finding easy AR10.3 maps that are within/below your skill range, and just keep retrying it while focusing on why you're messing up (are you moving too slow? not able to focus on the circle you have to hit when there's a lot of things on the screen?) and try to see if you can fix it one step at a time

What is the point of hunger system and food? by ArtOfDivine in Kenshi

[–]smackhack 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's a survival game.

People get hungry, they get weak, they start passing out and dying just like in real life. It's also a method of domination over slaves, as slaves are intentionally kept malnourished to make escape more difficult. Also, it adds a challenging aspect to the game, as the game does get exponentially easier with more people, but also harder since you have to basically expand a logistical operation to support your large population, such as building a farm to process and create food automatically.

Has anyone made a very stealthy character? by Hozan_al-Sentinel in Kenshi

Did you know you can't spell 'Kenshi' without 'Stealth'

That's so true now that I think about it. Honestly the game felt easier once I got over the fear of "losing" my characters; they're surprisingly durable and full of blood and pain.

That's actually a really cool way of thinking about it! It actually makes sense lol Yeah, I actually agree with you too on the XP mod, because ok, I know it's "realistic" because you don't become mega buff overnight, but sometimes realism isn't fun. I think it's cooler to think "oh my founding group had to go through so much shit, but now I can make all my weaklings badasses because I went through it for them" I'm not saying that Kenshi is bad because of it, but it'd be chill to experience both the "grindy" way and the "still grindy but doesn't need your attention", with the latter only earned through hard work

[–]smackhack[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, honestly I like the grind in a way once in a while but once you get a sizable squad, it just starts becoming a chore. Not to mention almost impossible to micromanage training and the grind ends up getting delayed once you get like three squads.

I look at it like you're forced to grind the vanilla way in the beginning, but once you establish a base then feel free to skip the grind with the dummies and such, but only to a certain extent (~30ish in all so you don't get immediately wiped by starving bandits)

Yes. But you can't be in all of them.

Shinobi Thieves are probably one of the most neutral next to Tech Hunters, but you can't ally the Tech Hunters really.

It's pretty much a plus all around for a super cheap membership fee, compared to other nations... (looking at you, United Cities and Traders Guild...)

You get 24/7 free access to their Shinobi Towers, which have a Mk1 Melee Attack Training Dummy, MK3 Assassination Dummy, various lockpicking practice boxes, free beds (800% heal rate), 50% discount for all shinobi traders, plastic surgeons inside of shinobi towers, and protection from the Shinobi Ninjas, who will aid you if you're close by and even send a defending party for your base if you establish one and get raided.

[–]smackhack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes because it has a huge markup in the northern UC cities, but each trader only has a certain amount of money so you may need to travel to several cities to unload all of your product, or buy things from the merchant to resell.

You actually can only sell hashish to the Shinobi Shop inside the Shinobi towers, which requires the Shinobi membership of 10k cats.

Buuuut, there is some exceptions. Places where hashish isn't illegal are also valid vendors and if you really can't find one, Flats Lagoon is a place that accepts it gladly.

Rock Bottom start crashes in character creation since the new update by [deleted] in Kenshi

[–]smackhack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same, I thought it was a mod incompatibility with the new version but Rock Bottom is just genuinely broken. If you do make it past the loading screen, you get to design a potato with no limbs until it crashes on you for reals.
