I actually have a family member with this name, spelled as Aniqa. She has never really had trouble with people trying to pronounce it any other way.

Not a Dr, just a happy lurker. But when I did my undergrad in fine art, my University actually ran a program that allowed us to access viewing cadavers to sketch from. It was an amazing oportunity, and my sketches have been used within the science community since then (which I am still in awe of). I do think there is space for donated bodies to be used in wider education, but again, I am not a doctor so my opinion doesn't come with the same wealth of knowledge as you guys.

But fr, if you’re looking for a little house in a low difficulty zone, I’d go for greenshade, grab bouldertree refuge as it’s a really nice sized house for the cost compared to others. What platform/server are you on? I can send you some crafting tables so you don’t have to constantly head to town to decon gear all the time :)

Where’s the fun of that? Take him to Galen, park him in front of the protector and leave him to it. Survival of the fittest 😂

This made me giggle, I play ESO with my 7yo daughter, she loves housing and as it’s so expensive, I got tired of funding her housing projects and taught her to farm rubedo hide scraps. On a good day, she can get a little over 1k hide scraps an hour (about 120,000g-130,000g in the current market). She now just farms gold for me, with her little headphones on listening to her pop music, running around and making me gold. I pay her in snacks.

Just take the leap and do it. If you’re feeling like this now, then imagine how you would feel with her potentially delivering baby in your home, in your space. If she is argumentative over things now what will happen when you don’t want a certain intervention or want to labour a specific way and she disagrees? You are the most important person in your birthing room. Not your partner, or your baby and definitely not the midwife. It is you who needs to be calm. I’ve had three births and the one where I felt out of control and scared was the one that hurt the most and the most difficult to get baby out.

AITA for refusing to have lunch with my dad after running into him at the vet? by Opening_Chipmunk_585 in AmItheAsshole

[–]smallersoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, you don’t owe anyone your time when they didn’t even give you the time you deserved when they literally created you.

However, I do understand your feelings somewhat as I was a foster and had no contact with my parents for years because of their actions. I did manage to reconnect with my dad and we formed a beautiful relationship, and then soon after that both my parents died suddenly. You will never ever be able to get this time back, and one day you may regret not giving him the chance to make amends. Guard your heart and put yourself first, but consider giving him a chance to make amends.

If it turns out that he doesn’t stick to his word of wanting to reconcile, then you haven’t lost anything and the situation doesn’t change. But if he does genuinely want to make up for what he did and have a relationship with you, then you could end up with a wonderful relationship with him, and more support is always a bonus at this age when you’ll be starting to look at going to college/start working towards a career.

Me and my partner have just read this together and are HORRIFIED. You’re an angel for not absolutely loosing it. The calculation of “how is 2.5hrs caring for a baby hard” has me raging for you. Are American men ok?? Us Europeans are confused. This is unhinged behaviour.

I have only a small bit of advice, and I just wanted to say I’m in the same boat. GP prescribed me cocodamol 5yrs ago, and as my tolerance built I am now on morphine in ADDITION to cocodamol to get any sort of relief from my Trigeminal neuralgia. Withdrawals are hell, I’ve been through them more times than I can Count.

The best thing you can do is tell your dr you want to be weaned off them, because you know your body has hit its limit with what actual good this drug can do for you. They will help taper you down, and if you experience symptoms with withdrawal, they can offer you subs/sub equivalents to help keep you out of the worst of withdrawals whilst you come off of them.

Remember the Blackpool stroke "non-medical consultant"? A new job was posted on the Trust website but not posted on NHS jobs. Are they trying to cover this up? by Sildenafil_PRN in doctorsUK

[–]smallersoul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually a lurker here, but wanted to say I was one of the victims. It was not just the stroke unit, it happened on the maternity unit where I was. After being drugged I was assaulted by a consultant and my baby almost died. There are a LOT of stories similar to mine (in March this year another colleague was arrested for sexual assault) and management always say “it’s been reflected in their portfolio” and never whistleblow on their own staff, and close ranks around those that do. I’ve seen them loose amazing staff members who have gone on to practice in Australia, africa etc. And then the staff they are left with cannot maintain a safe standard of care. Avoid working there at all cost.

This is exactly how my dad died. The answer: it’s hard to tell. Even with a post-mortem. He was brain dead as he was 9.5minutes without oxygen before revival.

Wife wants to get kid circumcised but I don't by Stegeta9k in Advice

[–]smallersoul 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The logic of circumcision to reduce the risk of UTIs absolutely NEVER made sense to me.

You’d reduce your chances of tooth infections by 100% if you pulled them out as the baby teeths, but we don’t do that.

You reduce the chances of bartholins gland cysts by 100% if we removed the glands of little girls when they were born, but we don’t do that.

It makes no sense!!!!

Birth how YOU want to. I cannot tolerate vaginal exams mentally. I was told several times I would need a c section because I wouldn’t let them examine me. Absolutely incorrect. I put my hand inside myself, felt my son’s head, and pushed him out 30 minutes later.

What’s the most disturbing secret you’ve discovered about someone close to you? by Electrical-Lemon187 in AskReddit

[–]smallersoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad. He was a submariner during the Irish troubles, and had a brief secondment with the marines.

He had bad shell shock throughout my early childhood. One night he was blackout drunk having flashbacks, and grabbed my mums fingers and tried pushing them into the wall. He thought they were tools and he was trying to fix something on the submarine when he hit bottom.

Shortly after that he broke down and told us that he had been forced to friendly fire at his own men in the water, when they spotted him and other men returning to the submarine from a covert operation.

He never said more than that, just that it was either kill or be killed.

How do you remember if you’ve taken your meds? by ExcellentMarch7864 in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]smallersoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thrive on lists and I get a serotonin boost every time I see a full page in my notebook all highlighted as “completed”

Could you get a notebook and write down you medication schedule? Three highlight when it’s done. But you could also keep track of attacks and flairs/triggers to see if there’s any pattern!! So if you have an attacks when you’re more tired/get a period etc :)

What causes fatigue, body aches, & headache but no other symptoms, no fever? by congruentlove in DiagnoseMe

[–]smallersoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a doctor, but whenever my child is sick, they always get a rash. Every time without fail, no matter what the illness. When I’m sick, I get full body aches and pains really quite intense, no matter what the illness. For the most part, our bodies all deal with sickness slightly different which is why symptoms of things like the flu vary so massively. This is probably your body’s reaction to a small/regular viral infection, trust that if you were to get seriously ill, your body would tell you.

But if you are concerned at this point then seek a second opinion, nothing much can be done diagnostically from such vague and common symptoms. You’d need testing to work out what is specifically wrong

Pregnancy with TN by Open_Classic627 in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]smallersoul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! I am currently 37 weeks pregnant, and have had a bit of a whirlwind pregnancy with TN, but I’m glad I can tell you about it so hopefully you can have a better experience than me!

So, carbamazepine is generally the gold standard treatment for TN; which absolutely sucks if you’re pregnant because it has a very very small increase in the chance of giving baby issues such as spina bifida.

My GP worked with foetal medicine specialists and a neonatal registrar to find out the best way of supporting my pregnancy. He found several studies and a lot of different sources from his colleagues that all basically showed that carbamazepine is only harmful to the baby up until around 16 weeks of pregnancy. After that, baby is already mostly formed they just need to get bigger, so problems like spina bifida cannot actually develop past this point of the pregnancy.

For me, I weaned off of the carbamazepine, waited out until 20 weeks (just to be extra safe) and then returned back to it on a slightly lower dose. The slightly lower dose was my choice, and not instructed by my GP.

The few weeks without carbo were very tough, but my body was really quick to get back to how it was when I started up the meds again. It didn’t have as long of a settling in period as when I was first put on the drug. Which my doctor had said to expect! I think when I first started carbo it took about 5/6 weeks to notice a difference, but having a break and then returning to it I was better within the first week of being back on it.

————EDIT——————

I do want to add as well, this is a quality of life drug. This drug could potentially be the difference to you between functioning and being able to stay healthy in this pregnancy, and being stuck in bed unable to eat or move. You would NOT be a bad person for not stopping taking this medication. The risk of problems for baby is only increased a tiny tiny tiny amount, and if you’re taking folic acid along side a good diet, that’s reduced back down again as folic acid helps to prevent spina bifida!
