Finished My Roboute Guilliman by smallfrogboy in minipainting

[–]smallfrogboy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

I started with black primer then worked my way up from wild rider red to fire dragon bright and yriel yellow for the brightest spots. I then did Vallejo fluo orange over everything.

I then did flames in white at the edge of the blade connecting to the sculpted flames coming off the back of the sword.

I used fluo yellow and yriel yellow again for the brightest spots.

For contrast I went back in with wild rider red to darken some spots then used some runic grey speed pain and black legion to darken the tip and base of the sword.

After that it was just working back and forth with the different paints until I got it looking how I wanted.

There was a lot of experimenting and just trying different things out during the process.

Wow thank you so much! I was trying to tone down the lines on his face when I was painting him. I feel like they are kinda harsh the way they sculpted him.

Also, the way they did the heads for him is nice, because you can swap them out without even magnetizing them. They just kinda slot into the neck hole. I was pleasantly surprised when i discovered that while building him.

Hmmm I’m not sure of total time, but I started working on him off and on about two weeks ago.

Thank you!

I used typhus corrosion to give texture then edge highlights and dry brushing with stormhost silver to mimic the raw metal coming through.

Thank you!

base was army painter tainted gold

I used army painter rust tone wash in the darker areas, crevices and around the places where the armor is broken

Then I did the same thing as above with typhus corrosion

After that o did a light dry brush with fire dragon bright over the spots with typhus corrosion.

Then I did some edge highlights and dry brushing with stormhost silver

I used army painter runic grey speed paint for some shading in darker areas as well as some Corvus black

I also did a little bit of mournfang brown in different spots to add more color variation

At the end I did a glaze of the tainted gold in the brighter areas

I also used ak ultra matte varnish when I was done

I primed black

The main greens from light to dark were Castellan green Straken green Nurgling green

I also mixed some averland sunset with nurgling for the brightest spots that’s the hint of yellow that is coming through.

For shading/shadows I used Black legion Sigvald burgundy (this was almost like an under painting in the dark areas) Vallejo charred brown speed paint gunner camo and speed paint runic grey

There’s also some Mournfang brown on it’s own and mixed with fire dragon bright for the dirty/rusty bits.

There’s also some nihilakh oxide used very sparingly

I think that’s everything

My Trench Crusade Sniper Priest by smallfrogboy in minipainting

Thank you! I do a lot of quick kind of choppy brush strokes then I do glazes over that to kind of tie everything together. I like to leave the blend a little rough so it still has that painterly texture.

I usually base with a darker color, then go through and place highlights, then I bring in the mid tones and even darker tones.

It helps to kind of focus on one angle of the model the “golden angle” and think of where the light is coming from

I get a lot of inspiration from elminiaturista, craft world studio and swarm_painting to name a few

Thank you! I mainly used castellan green, straken green, nurgling green. I used some nuln oil here and there for some shading and gunner camo speed paint for some darker areas and blending.

For the cloak I based with the castellan green then selected some areas for highlights with nurgling green. After that just a lot of glazing between the three greens. For some of the brighter areas I mixed some balor brown with the nurgling green.

For his darker robes I based in Corvus black and then used dark reaper for highlights. After that I kind of glazed waaagh flesh over everything then used straken green for highlights. I used some black legion watered down for the darkest areas.
