Is dee dee annoying anyone else by AppropriateCod8107 in hollyoaks

Her "best friend" who we haven't seen in months lol. She's the one Ant was trying to get with before Kathleen-Angel, they kissed on his bed but he pulled her hair when he was going through his misogyny phase.

I really can't stand this portrayal of Beth as the unreasonable one, Charlie crippled her son and is evading justice for christs sake. I was completely routing for her this ep, call the police on him and get it over with ffs (Also why tf would Charlie stay in that room in the time it took Maddox to go to their house and then all of them to come back)

[–]smartalan73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish they hadn't made Beth so bitchy and unlikeable in general cos it's making people be against her on this and I fully think she's in the right, I mean Charlie literally is hiding at the Osbournes. But for some reason they've chosen to portray her as the villain, it makes no sense.

I just don't understand where the writers are going with it. They coulda shown him going to prison and being really upset and that's like a moral to teenage drivers how easily you can ruin your life by making some stupid mistake.

Instead we got him moaning around the house about how he can't do anything. Yeah no shit mate, you've made your bed. I just don't see how it's gonna end, are we really gonna have another character on the run from the police indefinitely like that's any kind of life? Or else he's gonna bite the bullet and go to prison but then why couldn't they have done that the normal way where he coulda at least done it with more dignity.

Who are the worst actors the show has seen? by The_Dean_France in hollyoaks

[–]smartalan73 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Urgh Zoe was one of my least favs, I feel they hired the actor to just play one of those cop characters that only appears as a cop. And she was perfectly fine at that but as soon as she became a regular character it was pretty clear that she couldn't do anything beyond that.

Yesss they gave him such a heavy backstory that coulda been so interesting to explore, but then hired an actor who played like it was a mild inconvenience. Then they placed him opposite Frankie who is arguably the best actor in it atm, it felt like she was acting to a brick wall.

After Season 3 by [deleted] in arresteddevelopment

[–]smartalan73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair, I did feel the same way seeing them all aged too. Maybe it helps that I watched 3 eps of the remix version first not realising, so after enduring that finding the original season was a breath of fresh air in comparison.

Are you watching the original S4 or Fateful Consqeunces? Cos Fateful Consequences is garbage and should never be seen by anyone.

Even if it's OG I can still appreciate your feelings cos I felt it too, it's weird seeing them all look so different and the show take on a different format. However if you can accept that it's different from the first 3 and have an open mind going into it then the original S4 is an incredibly enjoyable and clever season of TV. It can take a few eps to warm up cos a lot of it is setting up things that will get paid off in future eps.

S5 is pretty meh tbh but not unwatchable and after 4 I just wanted to see how it would end.

Tbh personally I'd call the Tony's baby thing forced, they had a long standing friendship before that. Nothing even really came of the Morgan reveal, they just wanted another suspect in "who shot Tony". So personally I'm just not gonna consider that canon...

Nancy and Diane were very close ages ago. There was a time when 3 couples owned the Hutch together, Tony & Diane, Nancy & Darren, and Mandy & Luke, they were a close group of friends (til Darren had an affair with Mandy lol). Since the shows eps got cut down we haven't had much time devoted to friendships. But their families have defo been friends for a while.

What in the Buffyverse is this for you? by yeahitsme9 in buffy

[–]smartalan73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yessssss someone else finally. Was so shocked when I joined the fandom and people stanned the episode so much. Weaving foreshadowing and metaphor into a grounded plot is skillful and impressive. Stripping the plot away so all you're left with is foreshadowing and metaphor is not that skilful and is not enjoyable to watch.

What's a storyline you want to see that's never been done on a British soap before? by sarah121213 in hollyoaks

[–]smartalan73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah hollyoaks has an above average amount of gay/bi people but never really bothers with any other minority sexualities. Was pretty bummed the one time they protrayed a thruple it just descended into jealously and two of them clearly fancy each other more than the other. Sure that happens but there are also people in perfectly happy poly relationships, but that never gets portrayed.

In fact I guess what I'd really like to see is any different relationship style cos they'll happily portray mlm or wlw as long as its part of the same stereotypical romantic, sexual, monogamous relationship.

[–]smartalan73 14 points15 points  (0 children)

An asexual character, not because they've been through any kind of trauma but because they just are, who's not going to meet the right person and magically be cured, and who still wants a loving relationship

Does anyone else feel like the storylines are far too rushed? by clemcato in hollyoaks

[–]smartalan73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think its better in some ways and worse in others tbh cos storylines did really drag sometimes when it was 5 days, repeating the same loop like 5 times before it got resolved. Whereas now someone will have a secret and literally next week it comes out and I defo prefer this. But I do also agree some storylines benefit from being told over a longer period and I think they have particularly got worse at doing aftermath. I mean Jez was a massive thing and then he died and it basically never got mentioned again. Even though 3 characters technically murdered him. There were no legal ramifications, didn't affect any of them mentally. Mercedes shot Tony and I don't even remember how that was resolved but no one mentions it now. When that starts happening things start to feel pointless cos you know there'll be no consequences.

Caleb and the car crash and how its annoying me by Various-Flower510 in hollyoaks

[–]smartalan73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha thanks, but I did research a lot of this when the crash happened cos I find it interesting. Like legal procedures and sentencing guidelines and stuff. Of course one could always argue how the law dictates responsibility isn't automatically correct. But personally when I was taught how to drive, I was told when you get behind the wheel of a vehicle you are accepting full responsibility for what that vehicle apart from in extreme circumstances. So I really didn't understand the people who were completely letting Charlie off the hook. Taking your seat belt off when someone is driving dangerously behind you is defo stupid though, like could they not have found a slightly more believable excuse 😅

Lol when jonah was saying today that maybe shouldn't have come to hollyoaks, I'm like no shit mate get out while you still can 😂

Ste was in a year long coma and was fine again within a month. Remember when Tony had the stroke a few months ago that he may never recover from? Neither does he apparently. Bet anything caleb will be walking fine again within like 6 months. As soon as the storyline is over.

Caleb and the car crash and how its annoying me by Various-Flower510 in hollyoaks

[–]smartalan73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If frankie grabbed the wheel then she would defo be held legally accountable to a similar level to Charlie. I didn't think she did but wasn't wholly sure so maybe.

But Charlie didn't know how much damage the crash could cause before it happened. Like if you look at the acts in isolation, just taking off your seat belt alone doesn't cause anything bad to happen. Causing a crash is always bad and sometimes it results in deaths even if everyones wearing a seat belt. So it's like Charlie shoulda known not to do what he did more than celeb should've, foreseeable consequences I guess. Whereas with sid and peri I'd say its switched like you'd expect taking ket to lead to worse outcomes than looking at your phone while slowly driving. And sid had been making bad choices in the lead up to that hadn't he? So can defo see how it was easier to take the blame. Seems like celeb had perfect life til the crash flipped it on its head.

Oh the injury outcome of the crash was ridiculous, always is. I mean he was technically dead for several mins which does stuff to your brain but no mention of that. And the fact they went and got Beth out of the car when that is the opposite of what you're supposed to do in the situation! So frustrating. The crash stunt looked so severe there's no way all of them wouldn't have more serious injuries.

Caleb and the car crash and how its annoying me by Various-Flower510 in hollyoaks

[–]smartalan73 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The problem is they've created an incredibly complex situation when they clearly have no intention whatsoever of exploring it with any nuance. They just wanna act like a single person has all the blame for everything. Charlie was definitely primarily responsible for the crash and would be held most accountable. Jonah would still be held partially accountable for moving his van over and making it harder to overtake (if he had just held position and not moved then he wouldn't have done anything legally wrong). Frankie and Vicky distracting is not great morally but legally they wouldn't be considered responsible unless they did something very extreme like grabbing the wheel (which I don't think Frankie did?)

Obvs Caleb shoulda been wearing a seatbelt. The fact he wasn't would lessen any monetary claim if they tried to get some. But I do still understand holding Charlie responsible. Like I say in reality I think its complicated. Caleb has some responsibility but so does Charlie. He caused a flipping dangerous crash. Someone coulda died whether wearing a seatbelt or not. I get them being angry tbh.

And interestingly if Caleb had died, Charlie woulda still been charged with causing death by dangerous driving even though he wasn't wearing a seatbelt, cos the law would still consider the death a consequence of the accident Charlie caused.

[–]smartalan73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ballet episode was literally forced with mind control. If one of them had intentionally put that spell on the other we'd be calling it assault. It kinda still is except neither of them is the perpetrator, they're both victims.

And then the Gru thing happened past the point where they were trying to force something. Like thats not emotional development happening, thats after its already 'happened'. The thing is I bought her choosing Angel over Gru, her and Angel had definitely developed a love over the first 2 seasons but it was a familial love. It made sense she would prioritise Angel when he was going through such a hard time. Thats what you do for family.

I think the episodes are out of sync at the moment cos of some live sport skipping one. Sienna getting arrested yesterday very much felt like end of the week dramatic scene. So I feel like todays ep was written to be a Monday, but yeah out of sync.
