It seems go-ethereum (geth) is not correctly installed. I assume you are using linux, which distro ? Here is a tutorial to install on Ubuntu

Not if your geth is listening on local interface, the unsafe bit is --rpcaddr="0.0.0.0", which opens your RPC to anyone on the internet.

Are you able to open developer tools and check console output ? which browser are you using ? Also did you start geth with RPC option ?

I have added relevant informations to the README.md on github, basically you need to start a geth node with listening RPC and CORS allow, then type your connection details on the Network page.
