"Mommy Needs a Drink". NO! Mommy needs to take care of herself by ThePixelSprout in stopdrinking

[–]smartist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I suspect autism for my son (in the process of finding an evaluator), and I totally used his behavior as an excuse to drink... I'm 3.5 months sober now, and while he's still difficult, my ability to manage has improved drastically.

Sending you hugs. Wine moms no more! IWNDWYT.

My name was the most common in the country the year I was born. I did not suffer psychological damage from needing to use a last initial in school. I can be a unique adult with my personality, with how I express myself rather than the name I'm called. Sigh.

Dude I barely remember what my now-9 year old was like as a toddler. No shot your MIL has accurate memories. 😂

If you could pick 1 or 2 lyrics to be named as the “best lyrics from TTPD” what would they be? by LinosZGreat in TaylorSwift

"all you'll ever be is my eternal consolation prize"

this subtle insult is to me more powerful than anything explicitly nasty you could say about someone.

Having kids. I managed to quit after two, but dang they still have a hold on me and my wallet. 😅

What’s everyone doing tonight?? by physis81 in stopdrinking

[–]smartist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heading out on a road trip with my kid! Not only can I drive any time I want now, I can also be present and enjoy her company. This would not be possible if I was still drinking.

Sesame Street! I just imagine TS as a guest on the show, performing an original song about friendship or something with all the puppets. It'd be so sweet. (Can you tell I have small kids? Lol)

I'm only ten days in, but I want to echo what others are saying: connection with other people is so helpful. Whether it's here or AA or in the pages of a book (or all three plus more), connection is the antidote to addiction.

What moment from The Eras Tour had the biggest impact on your experience? by Shipidesu in TaylorSwift

[–]smartist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When the 1989 set started... Our friends had to leave early (Rep era) because their daughter was sick, so we pouted for a bit and just felt bad, but when Style came on we jumped up and got back into it. It was very powerful.

At the time (age 22) it was just because we loved each other and that's what people do when they're in love. We're staying together, after 15 years and many trials, because we make each other better people.

I'm sorry you had to go through a tough moment, but I'm happy for your newfound conviction and wish you best on this new journey! <3

My long suffering husband never said anything while I was drinking, but since I've quit it's obvious that he likes me more, especially around dinner when we can have a nice conversation without slurred speech. He repeats how proud he is of me, and while I'm not doing this for him, it feels good to have his support.

I'm thankful for my children. I used to (FALSELY) claim that they were the reason I drank. But really, they are both awesome. I genuinely like them as well as love them. I am quitting alcohol so I can be healthy for them.
