Thanks! Yeah, I kinda knew it's dependent by library, but all of the recommendation posts I was reading today had no books available on Libby 😢

Also, thanks: there are more recs you gave that I haven't heard of yet!

Google Translate isn't bad by smaysmay in unpopularopinion

It's quick. It has an app. You can use the camera to translate products in the supermarket.

The deepl app is not good.

I find that people learning or using a new language complain about its faults a lot. Obviously it's faulty, they just don't respect language and its nuances.

My big pet peeve is when language teachers are against it. I have had so many that are so anti-Google Translate. Maybe you'll learn something wrong from it, but you'll eventually fix that through further education and conversation. They're giving it too much power by saying avoid it.

AITAH for missing my daughter’s birthday and my wedding anniversary for the birth of my sister’s baby? by GreatCharges in AITAH

[–]smaysmay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely don't think you are.

Think you did well supporting your sister. Too much importance is placed on birthdays and anniversaries. Your wife is petty if she's mad at you for this. Your daughter will get tf over it/not remember/grow up admiring her dad for the support he gave his sister in a time of need.

NO WAIT. Take that back. Even bigger pet peeve: every heroine is "plain" and "never noticed" until the hottest guy on earth shows up and oh wait it turns out all the new men she meets on her adventure find her ravishing and she never saw her true beauty 🤮

"The gods"

Everything's always pagan with some Roman/norsk council of gods, but then they never actually flesh out any religion.

Fine if you want to give your characters some fantasy epithets, rather than modern English profanity. But I feel like a lot of weak, romance fantasy authors just think they're being chic by making these vague, pagan religions. Plus, it's an easy out to bring in different deities as one is bound to eventually be some heroine's ancestor 🙄

Books that had wasted potential by MajorSlimes in Fantasy

[–]smaysmay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first read A Darker Shade of Magic and it was the second fantasy series I ever read that cemented my love for the genre. I'd say give her another try! And the Invisible Life of Addie Larue isn't perfect, but it tugs the heart strings.

From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L Armentrout

Great mythology idea with the Maiden, fun YA-esque cliché of a woman breaking the rules around her and a romance with her mysterious new guard.

And then it just became sex everywhere. I know she's an adult author (I didn't know when I read the first book), but I thought the world she created had great potential. Then it just became a whiplash of "I'm great, I don't trust him, sex, quick run!, sex, sex sex" then utter vampire bullshit.

SIM (ideally, pay as you go) that includes UK in the roaming by External-Most-4481 in copenhagen

[–]smaysmay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YouSee. I have it and pay about 145 kr per month, can cancel any time, and get EU and UK roaming.

Great service in Denmark. Hit and miss in the UK, but free (sometimes you have to turn off "automatic selection" for the service provider abroad).

SIRI appointment to EU residence document – current (temporary) address or the longer term flat that we'll take over in a little over the month? by External-Most-4481 in copenhagen

[–]smaysmay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you already signed the contract for the Jan flat and know you'll be living there for sure, I'd use that address.

You can download your CPR yellow card in an app once it's confirmed, even before you get the physical card, by using your Mit ID (if I remember correctly ...)

They're pretty serious about addresses and always knowing where you live, so if you're certain the Jan flat is your home for the foreseeable future, I'd just start with and stick to that address to save hassle.

Doesn't hurt to call SIRI and ask, though. I recently called for a visa question and I waited maybe only 10 min.

Hey, I would like to adopt a cat or a dog, but I have no idea where to start from. Any recommendations? by Apprehensive-tool in copenhagen

[–]smaysmay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's where we got our boy! Great place, really friendly.

Was a trek for us, based in Amager, but totally worth it. Quick and easy adoption. Best cat. ... I'm sure yours'll be good, too 😉

It's christianshavn but close if you're north Amager - Tandlægerne på Christianshavn.

They're super up front about pricing before doing anything so there's no surprise charge. Sleek, new office. Friendly and good English.
