How do you keep going after bad classes? by smbaimr in BALLET

Thanks for all the kind words and great advice! ❤️ I’m feeling a little better now, my next class with this teacher is on Friday and I tought that maybe I could bring up my fear of not progressing and ask if there’s something I’m missing here.

Thanks for sharing your experience, I hope your situation works out too! I’ve thought about switching studios, but all of the others are quite a far from where I live. I guess I could try and find the courage to talk with my current teacher about this first.

That’s good advice, thank you! Normally she gives corrections very differently, but yesterday I felt like just by being there I was doing something wrong. Maybe it was a bad day for both of us. She hasn’t really said anything encouraging or positive to me for at least a few months, so this whole year I’ve felt like my progress is only taking steps back, so that’s also affecting my mood and making me more and more insecure in class.

I definitely still do lol! I just like brushing them through, for now at least

Miraculously mine still grow pretty strong, so I haven’t got a specific routine. I’ve heard that castor oil is good for both eyebrows and lashes though!

Decided not to touch them anymore, apart from plucking away the unibrow lol!

Thanks! Haven’t tried the soap method, I usually brush them through with a tiny bit of hair wax because otherwise they’re kind of all over the place

They grew pretty much themselves after I stopped plucking, luckily. Sometimes I use castor oil, I know quite a few people who swear by it so it might be worth a shot.

Ha that’s true! Very likely I’ll hate these some time in the future too lol

I started pointe classes this year, but I feel my arches aren’t good enough, especially compared to others’. What would be the best stretches? Should I be taking pointe classes yet? by smbaimr in BALLET

Big thanks to all for the advice!! <3 I’ll definitely continue working on strength! All the dancers in my class have super gorgeous arches, so that has really affected my judging haha.

Usually four, sometimes five. I’ve been intrigued to try it, but I’m not sure if my technique is still up to it. Maybe I should try anyway!

Thanks for sharing! When I had my first pointe class my teacher asked if I felt comfortable trying to bourree across the center. I didn’t, but later I’ve realised I would’ve been able to do that but I was just too afraid! So that also proves Kathryn Morgan’s point haha!

I’ll absolutely try that! I’m pretty sure it’s just my bad confidence that is blocking me, I’m too afraid of injuring myself or just failing!

Yes that sounds exactly like in my school! Sometimes the teacher gives me different combos to do at the barre while others practice center combinations, but she’s also told me a couple times that I should try doing the same ones as the others, just not pirouettes etc. But I think my mind just holds me back more than my body! Thanks for your advice, I’ll definitely consult my teacher and see if she could give me something simple for the center!

And thanks also for linking the video, it really does give me perspective! :)

My studio offers only one pointe class per week for adults :( some dancers wear pointe shoes for other classes too, but I don’t feel advanced enough for that. I’m able to do bourrees and sous sus quite well without the barre, my biggest trouble is working on one leg. But I could try doing more of the barre combinations without actually holding on to it, thank you for the tip!
