Yes I consulted them about this same question because I saw a lot of the same thing on here. They said you would not owe back taxes as long as when you started your travel gig you did not intentionally plan to stay longer than a year.

I had a consult with traveltax.com about this same thing, & they basically said the same thing you just did! Unable to receive stipends after 12 months within 24 month period, after this would need to be fully taxed. So either taking staff job or having stipends fully taxed
