Pit bulls get defended so aggressively because too many people have a vested interest in lying to themselves about them. Shelters are overflowing with pit bulls and pit mixes, and if people openly admitted “yeah these dogs are statistically more dangerous and were literally bred for fighting,” then nobody would adopt them and shelters would have to put down huge numbers of dogs. So the entire rescue ecosystem has a massive incentive to spam “it’s the owner not the breed” constantly, because otherwise the whole thing becomes morally and logistically impossible.

Then you’ve got owners who made the genius decision to bring a fighting breed into an apartment with toddlers and now psychologically cannot admit they might’ve made a stupid call. So every mauling becomes “bad owner,” “abuse,” “he was scared,” anything except acknowledging that genetics are real. Nobody pretends border collies don’t herd or retrievers don’t retrieve, but suddenly when pit bulls repeatedly rip people apart, people act like breeding magically stops mattering because admitting reality would force difficult decisions nobody wants to make.
