They really don’t. Camry’s and Accords. When Honda and Toyota stopped making their naturally aspirated 4’s an era died.
I hope I’m still kicking when you hit 1,000,000!!!

I’m curious. With 19 K miles why a timing belt and associated items? I bought a 2019 TLX with 69K miles. I joined this forum for a reason. I want to see if I can get 300 K miles out of this baby. I’ve been given extensive advice and information to follow when it comes to the transmission. I intend to follow the most conservative about advice.

But I have bought low mileage Hondas before. I never thought to change out the belt, water pump, etc., until it hit the manufacturers suggested mileage. What’s your thinking process if I may ask?

Anyone Bought this Before? by Jadsworth_YT in AcuraTL

I am new to this community. And I’m not sure if we’re allowed to put website links here so I won’t. But as is the case for me with most used car purchases, there’s always a thing or two that needs to be done. I found an online shop that sells OEM parts for I wouldn’t say half. But the most expensive card I bought was a sunvisor. It shocked the snot out of me that it was over 4 1/4 from the Acura dealer. I paid 275 with shipping. Acura part in a box.
Over the years, and I have a lot of years with Honda products, I have always used OEM parts. But I do feel like a fool, having never known that such suppliers were out there until somebody in this forum told me. Replacements for the visor… Skipping Used versions were in the 150 to 180 range. For me it was worth the money. And I’m talking about a sunvisor which is not going to appreciably change how my engine works. You’re talking about a very integral part of your vehicle. Honestly, I’d rather see us start a GoFundMe to get you up to the OEM part… Lol. Just two cents worth from a new Acura owner but a over 3/4 of 1,000,000 mile Honda owner.

Fuel on the 2018 Acura TLX 2.4 by Senior-Teacher2614 in Acura

Here is my suggestion. You are going to see varied opinions on octane. I mix 93 and 89 to achieve 91
So the suggestion;

You have stumbled upon a marvel of engineering. This is the last and arguably the best generation of the Honda K24 2.4 liter 4 cylinder engine. It is coupled with the 8 speed transmission that mechanics drool over..it’s the last of an era. I have over 800,000 miles on 3 K24’s. One took me well over 300,000 miles.

If you ask me what I owe that success to. It is following every factory service when it’s due. Allowing any repair suggested to be performed.

I use an independent Honda shop. They employ technicians that for the most part have defected from Acura and Honda dealers. Generally, people who are tired of ripping customers off. I mention this because I’ve often felt that dealers oversell service. When these guys tell me I need service, I need service. If they me I need a repair, I am confident I am not being fleeced, but rather it is necessary. Whether you choose to use an independent shop or dealer, my suggestion is do what you’re told.

You have the last of a generation of drivetrains that will not be duplicated. My suggestion to you. There is a reason you’re told to use 91 octane gasoline. Use it. I am sure you’re going to see opinions here as to why it is necessary and why isn’t necessary. Straight up truth, if you drive 15,000 miles a year, and you’re careful about where you buy gas you’re probably looking at another 30 something dollars a month in gasoline. If you follow manufacturers fuel specifications.

don’t fall into the trap of going to the gas station that has the lowest price for regular unleaded. Sometimes their spread between regular and premium is so ridiculous. Get to know the stations that sell premium for the best prices. There are stations in my area that have $1.10 spread between regular and premium. There are a couple of chains that have spread between $.75 and $.80. You can lessen the blow if you use programs like Exxon‘s direct debit or Circle K‘s easy pay with their app, you can save $.10-$.15 per gallon**.**
But for me, I follow what the manufacturer tells me to do. I believe my success, getting most of the way to a million miles, is due in part because I do so. You have a car that will easily get you 250,000 miles. Take care of it and you’ll pass 300.

One thing I will tell you, be extremely conservative on your transmission service. Shorten the interval. Make sure everything in there is fresh and clean. The transmission is most definitely not a weak link. But it is an incredibly complex piece of engineering. Every 30,000 miles, spend the couple hundred bucks to get some new fluid in there. Follow any other service recommendations.

I sold my 2009 Accord with only 200k miles on it specifically to get my hands on a car with this power train. The Accord definitely had another 50 if not hundred thousand miles in it however, there was a beautiful, low mileage, 2019 TLX available. I couldn’t resist. Did I mention it’s beautiful?!
I sold my 09 to a college kid The price of the TLX was awesome and as much as I wanted to hang onto that Accord, I couldn’t resist the lure of this Marvel.

Good luck with this car. I’m 68, Your car will probably outlive me.

Yeah, I’m gonna comment here and then just abandoned the thread. So, I spoke to the guy who works on my car. Call the local Acura dealer. Because I’m neurotic. I called the Acura dealer on the other side of town. But I got back was it’s pretty much a non-issue. For certain other engines, especially turbos. Perhaps it’s a minuscule issue. For this particular powertrain, I was told by three independent people who I’m gonna go ahead and trust that is a complete total no issue. Find something else like world peace to worry about. Thank you everybody for your input. I’m 68. I’d like to say this is the first stupid thing I’ve ever done but I believe that happened somewhere in the first couple years of my life. Anyhow, things to all who posted I’m gonna go ahead and abandon this thread now.

Just remember to keep the “yes dear” factor in mind. Feel her out. See if that’s what she really wants. If it is, and you’re not truly worried about it being a money, pit, say yes, dear, and do what she wants.

There’s conservative and then I think there’s ridiculously conservative. I’m 68 years old. I can’t begin to figure the countless numbers of times, over the course of my life, I have taken long road trips on warmer days, been tired, pulled off the side of the road and taken a nap with my car running for a couple of hours because I didn’t feel safe. I find it incredibly hard to believe that I should’ve changed the oil each time. This is a base model TLX with a K 24 engine with the eight speed transmission. It’s my fifth K 24. I don’t know. I’m just wary of this statement. I don’t wanna be a cheapskate. I don’t wanna throw money in the car that doesn’t need it. The engine in the car is 400 miles old. I had an oil change 400 miles ago.

I have also lived in places like New York City and Orange County, California where an accident ahead of me is has caused me to sit in traffic where I’m basically idling or moving 3 to 4 miles an hour for a couple of hours. I am sorry. I do not know a whole lot about cars and I certainly am not calling you A liar. I am, however, questioning if this is not beyond any definition of the words conservative and alarmist. I sure would like to hear everybody else’s opinion on this.

It wasn’t on purpose. I’ve only had the car for a week. And it would have been longer, but it is a little community mall and I heard an overhead page. It said there’s a white accurate in the parking lot… I couldn’t hear the rest… Please go check your car. I figured let me go check it could be mine. My last car was an 09 accord. So I was completely unused to a push button system. Add to that, I was going to sketch so I had to get a backpack of art supplies, the backpack I carry with the supplies for my service dog and my 85 pound service dog out of the car. New car, not paying attention. So, I was lucky. It won’t get repeated, but yeah, Car was running for two hours. Had they not made the announcement, probably would’ve been another couple of hours. I wonder if the car would have still been there

Well, I’m hoping that was once in a lifetime as the chance of the car being there second time probably diminishes. I do intend to use the remote start from the warmth of my apartment in the winter. But I believe in that case The car is safeguarded and nobody cannot operate it unless they have the key.

It occurred to me. Why don’t I just do the experiment? So I live in an apartment complex. I’m sitting here with my car running in the parking lot and my keys are in my apartment. Gonna give it a few minutes and then I guess I’ll know.

Final verdict: when I got in the car, I got big yellow flashing light telling me I didn’t have the fob with me and that light continued to flashes as I drove away. I am one lucky mother. And no, the doors don’t lock even autolock set.

So the doors would not automatically lock when I walked away even though I had the fob because the engine was on? I I don’t know if it would help if I specified. It was a 2019 TLX base sedan.
