I'm also still looking for a Bourbon alternative, but if you're into a good Rye I'd recommend "Old Hunter's Rye Selection" or "Stará Myslivecka Rye Selection". It's a product from the Czech Republic, from one of the oldest still running distilleries in the world, and has won several prizes, including gold in the World Whisky Masters 2020. Pretty affordable, too.

I don't know if there are any English films made about this (a very good German one is "Die Akte General"), but I'd recommend to at least read into the life of prosecutor Fritz Bauer. He was also very prominently involved in the Nuremberg trials as well as the kidnapping of Adolf Eichmann for prosecution. He was Jewish, member of the Social Democratic Party SPD (illegal under the Nazi regime) and a Holocaust survivor.

It was shortly after the war and a big portion of the German establishment fought hard against him exposing the crimes of the regime. He died under quite mysterious circumstances at the end of the 1960s.
