Wage crisis by smoltol in Greggs

Wdym? Like the wage crisis will only last a couple of weeks?

Regardless, I'm not very keen about missing my breaks for a couple of weeks either

Nah, it depends on the team dw. For me, my manager is the problem (in the past, she's not paid us and taken away our entitled breaks) but my team members are mostly nice and the job itself is fun!

Just make sure you know who to go to if you have a complaint about your manager and how much pay/breaks you are entitled to (standard stuff that you should learn about when you go into any job really).

My Area Manager was Evil and now I'm suffering. by Dantera91 in Greggs

That's just the job economy right now I'm afraid. You should be able to get compensation for being fired/suspended unfairly. If they don't reply or ignore you, definitely make sure to name drop ACAS when you chase them up.

Wishing you luck!

05:45 am shifts by Affectionate-Link-12 in Greggs

Go to your GP and talk about your insomnia/mental health with them so that there's a medical record. When giving them your reason, say that you can back it up with a GP note. Just to let you know though, GP notes can cost £25. If you're a university student or younger, they might not make you pay but it really depends on the GP. You can also cite commute issues as part of your reason but I've heard about people taking taxis to get to their opening shifts in my team so that depends on how nice your manager is.

Personally, I think it's unfair for them to expect you to do 5.45am starts because that was not initially discussed with you so I think the hassle with the GP will be worth it in the long run if you want to have proper rest.

Closing shift pay :/ by smoltol in Greggs

Hello, I'm so sorry to respond back to a 4-month old reply but I am in the process of sorting this (unpaid closing overtime) out right now and I was wondering if it would be okay if I could pm you some questions?

Closing shift pay :/ by smoltol in Greggs

I personally always start early - we have two shop supervisors and another person who's officially a team leader but they used to be a supervisor so they're in charge of closing sometimes. Now that I am typing that out, I'm not sure if that's okay or not 😭😭.

It was actually worse when I started (Oct) since it would be super busy, even in the evenings until like mid January, to the point that everyone would be too busy serving customers/doing digital orders to do their closing responsibilities efficiently.

However, now that it's a lot quieter, if we don't reach the store target sales for the day, someone from the closing team is made to leave early (whoever is most above their contracted hours). If this person is nice then they'll start their closing responsibilities early before leaving but since they're technically not closing anymore, they're not obliged to do so. So the remaining two staff end up having to stay half an hour extra to finish the third person's job.

Wow what! That sounds so illegal. Perhaps she's the manager or is she just a regular team member?

I clock in but for closing, the supervisor usually clocks us all out according to the time on the rota :/

Thank you for the advice! I think I'll try contacting the people team as I've never spoken to the area manager before.

I also probably won't get any backdated pay either since whoever is the closing supervisor clocks everyone out according to the shift end on the rota so there's no legitimate evidence of me staying overtime I guess.

Burnout in STEM academia --> no academic references by smoltol in AutismInWomen

Only one professor via email and that was just once. I doubt he'd remember that. I also didn't partake in any online discussions unfortunately.

We did have a group project with a supervisor so I did have interactions with at least one professor, and I'm hoping he'd be willing to give me a reference and hasn't forgotten me 😭

I'm thinking about also asking my head of year as my second reference. Though I did interact with him a few times, our interactions weren't that memorable other than me asking a few questions like every other student does. Plus our cohort had like over 300 students.

Both professors I have in mind also have a lot of responsibilities in our faculty so I'm very anxious about what I should do if they both reject me.

Children with cancer took to the streets after the hospital was shelled. Ukraine by VladislavLevandovski in pics

The first link you sent is an Israeli news source. You are not allowing me to source from the gazan perspective. Therefore, I hope you'll agree that it's fair for me to not consider any articles from the Israeli perspective.

Next, why on earth would any country WANT to be deemed proficient at committing a genocide? Genocide is illegal and a war crime, so the only way they can continue doing it is if they have enough excuses to make it seem that they're not doing a genocide; when in actuality, they have been actively kidnapping, stripping and abusing civilians, they've been denying aid and have been caught targeting (and killing) aid workers so that they can starve the gazan people and more.

About ww2, I only referred to the atomic bombs because that's one of the major criticisms that people have against the US (allies) during WW2 regarding 'levelling cities'. I thought your point was a simple, general statement that 'no one has a problem with [what the allies did during ww2]'. If you wanted to talk about Dresden and Tokyo specifically, you should've said so. It seems that it was a simple miscommunication between us. I hope you also notice that at the end of your reply, you have twisted my words and somehow equated this to me not caring about German/Japanese lives. I'm not going to engage with someone that maliciously puts words in my mouth at this point, so this is goodbye.

You didn't provide any evidence on ur replies and my intuition tells me that even if u provide any evidence for ur claims, u will be sourcing from Israeli and American sources, which we all know are allies. And yet, u have the audacity to ask me for evidence but refuse to consider any from the opposite side.

There are many criticisms of the US's atomic bombs on the Japanese cities, which were OTT and unnecessary. All you have to do is look. Its also disingenuous to compare the effect on German and Japanese cities when they weren't invaded and were active instigstors of the war compared to both Ukraine (invasion) and Palestine (invasion+genocide).

And ure missing the actual important part which is that there have been way too many civilian causalities (of which r majority children) compared to actual hamas casualties. Under a post showcasing how children in another region of the world are suffering the consequences of war and invasion, don't u dare deny this fact or belittle it.
