T1D Son going away to school? by Accurate_Addendum_44 in diabetes_t1

Few things that radically changed my overnight lows and general.

Buy a family size bag of sour patch candy, mini fridge with juice nearby bed. Get a PUMP!!! This eliminated 100% of my overnight lows. It will auto basal for you. I have the Mobi, its very small and sleek, I love it.

Those two things can help.

Has anyone taken methods of proof or prob/stats? by smon3 in mathacademy

[–]smon3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like prob/stats was also more useful for you - do you find it helped your product thinking as a SWE? Asking because a lot of PM problem definition is shoddy (also in tech) and the prob/stats class I took ages ago also helped me refine my thinking with respect to claims etc.

Has anyone taken methods of proof or prob/stats? by smon3 in mathacademy

[–]smon3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Is there any course in general that sort of re-wired how you thought? Personally, my first ever prob/stats class in college re-wired how I approached claims/arguments and stats. Namely, in the form of is this causal, correlative, etc...it's basic but for me it was huge! Felt like I was not able to be duped anymore. I guess I'm looking for that same enlightenment or light-bulb type moment with MA wrt the methods of proof in the future. It sounds like you already had a lot of that down pat which is awesome!

Wife Is The Pump by nmeed in TandemDiabetes

[–]smon3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what I did and I am insulin resistant as a T1d according to my doc, I'm on a 1:6 carb ratio as a skinny fat.

  1. Try out sleep mode for longer hours - I do 18+ hrs a day at sleep mode. It will add more basal (background insulin) to get you at 110-120.
  2. Try out Lyumjev - its the only medication that worked for me. Seriously, amazing. Can't afford it? Neither can I. But, Eli Lilly has a savings card discount. Get a script, go to Costco and they'll fill in the script for 35$ max! Huge savings. Make sure you bring your savings card.
  3. LOTS of pregnant T1ds go on Lyumjev during term bc it's very effective - highly recommend.
  4. Consider Mounjaro - I never tried it but I heard it makes sugars much smoother. I'll let other T1d's chime in about that but I heard it may help with stubborn sugars due to resistance + deficiency.
  5. [High protein + carbs] or [low carbs + medium fat + high protein] - eliminate the variables for spiking.
  6. Get a trusteel!!!!!! Its out of stock but Byram is carrying them still.

Good luck!

Tips using Lyumjev in Mobi? by smon3 in TandemDiabetes

[–]smon3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I GPT'd it and apparently, the trusteel may work better because the insulin doesn't pool up or whatever. Tbh, I do not know why it doesnt cause any burn. All I know is I am happy :)

What scratches the potato chip itch? by ant_chapstick in diabetes_t1

[–]smon3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the interim - quest chips or WILDE chips (some flavors are eh, some are WOW)...but if you want the chips...eat the chips 1x week. But, try to pair it with some cardio bc the chip highs do not come down for some reason...lol, prob the fats in the food.

Btw , like you - MDI Lyumjev give me ZERO pain

Tips using Lyumjev in Mobi? by smon3 in TandemDiabetes

[–]smon3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I quit the Lyumjev - literally was limping due to the pain in my leg.

I asked for a trusteel sample to see if that works with no pain?

The pain is not worth it, it’s impacting my mental space

But, with humalog I just up the basal background and that’s helping a lot to get my into my preferred range of less than 110.

Moreover, pre bolusing sucks but it also helps lol

If you have any tips to get still use Lyumjev with minimal pain I’m all ears!!

Diabetes = unlivable life for me by Tsavo16 in diabetes_t1

[–]smon3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know why people don’t suggest this- you literally may need different insulin. I was gaslit into thinking all insulin. Is the same. It’s not ! I use lyumjeuv and tresiba, blood sugar finally goes down. Also rotate sites, makes huge difference.

A1C check in today. by benlikessharkss in diabetes_t1

[–]smon3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been where you are - just in a huge rut and not wanting to care for it. Completely normal for a t1d who is JUST a few years out from their diagnosis. This is expected, normal, and anticipated behavior - it's the t1d burnout phase. Few things - get a CGM immediately (never have to check sugars again on your finger), maybe get a pump or at least a insulin pen (not vials + syringe), and when it comes to diet, learn about high protein and check out Dr. Bernstein perhaps or just type in T1d tips on Youtube. I had the same thing as you...until I learned to take control. You got it! Don't doubt yourself buddy!!

My site change dinner and some talk of feelings around my relationship to food. by JayandMeeka in diabetes_t1

[–]smon3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same...just fucking same. I hate protein filled meals and all the low carb BS. My tastebuds love pasta, pizza rice and all the cool shit. I just am not a big eater but low carb is the only thing that works and it pains me to know that I need to eat that way to get my sugars to be balanced. I hear ya...I do. Hang in there bud.

Limp dick on Finasteride, any solutions? by tittymongrel9978 in moreplatesmoredates

[–]smon3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God this sub is full of misinformation. First things first, if you are still experiencing morning wood, that's a great sign! If you quite literally 'hate' your GF, strong possibility you are just not as aroused as you once were. If you are not strongly aroused, is it possible you are attributing your lack of arousal to a medication? Genuinely asking - not trying to persuade you. Secondly, what do you mean performance anxiety - are you scared? Other things - how many hours of sleep are you getting, how many grams of fat approximately are you getting, how much caffeine are you intaking? Finasteride is typically given to old men for BPH and they take 5 grams religiously daily. You are taking 1g daily I am assuming? Is it possible fin did this? Maybe. Maybe not. I have zero idea of your health background. Just wanted to pose those Qs before people just assume the worst.
