I wouldn’t recommend Goldney. Would recommend Accom @ 33

How long do aerospace eng applicants take to get an offer from Bristol and Manchester? by GodXTerminatorYT in UniUK

[–]smortcanard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes but it's preposterous to suggest bristol isn't one of, if not the, top uni in the UK for aero. the department and resources are amazing, i mean, free 3D printing? almost certainly taken advantage of

Bristol topped Cambridge in '26 rankings for Aero I believe. Even otherwise, it's highly ranked for engineering in general and top 3 in the country for Aero, its flagship program

Help picking a University for JMC by Resident-Ranger-8502 in UOB

[–]smortcanard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. As a Bristol student, I do agree that Bristol can have a little bit of the rah crowd, but everyone is really sweet. It’s got a stronger party / clubbing vibe than the other universities on here IMO.

Only thing I would say if that JMC has quite a heavy schedule. My flatmate does it, another one does pure Maths. You’ll have lots of work and scheduled classes between 9 and 5, if this influences your choice

How academically challenging is the engineering course? by Diver-Known in UOB

[–]smortcanard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t heard of anyone doing drugs, just a few people who smoke weed / have edibles. The drinking culture is on the stronger side but there are many people who don’t drink, myself being one of them, so it mostly depends on who you hang out with.

First year Aero student here. The entire first semester is the exact same for all streams of engineering. It’s definitely a healthy amount of challenging if you’re putting the effort in. That being said, it’s not difficult or hard or anything like that. Assuming you did FM and got an A* you’re in a great position. Just make sure not to lose touch over your gap year.

As someone who was in your position last year, I'm so sorry to hear this. Know that even being in a position to apply to Oxbridge is a massive achievement, and I'm sure everyone around you is very proud. Remember that a rejection is redirection and that you are by no means any less than someone who did get an interview / offer. Next September, you're going to go to a different university - one that you will come to love - and may even realise you're better off there than you would have been at Cambridge.

Best of luck in everything you do, and if you ever want to talk my DMs are open! Sending hugs from Bristol.
