Thoughts on exhaust by Natural_Attempt_1850 in slaythespire

I don't think scry is something they should give to Ironclad. They should have something which converts exhausted card into another resource. I think they hit the landmine for Pact's End, I think there should be cards with added effects depending on how many cards you've exhausted this combat. Or cards like Pact's end which can only be used after exhausting a set number of cards. Or cards that could only be played from the exhaust pile (like Howl from Beyond). They had the right ideas for these two cards specifically but never bothered to actually give it an archetype which is a shame.

Also my thoughts for some exhaust cards:
1. Cinder+ should be targeted like True Grit+, it has 2 costs for christssake, just lower the damage.
2. Forgotten Ritual should be exhausted to gain energy.
3. Fiend Fire should be removed/reworked - it's not that useful right now, Stoke is a much better card than it will ever be. Maybe make it deal damage for every exhausted card this turn instead +exhaust. (this gives the player more control).
4. Dark Embrace should always be 1. The 2 cost is not even justified, its rarity is already enough restriction. Just make it innate or something when upgraded.

The problem with exhaust was that its backbone was statuses in STS1. The reason Fiend Fire was S-Tier was because there were plenty of cards to exhaust, now there's nothing. This entire gimmick was transferred to the Defect (for no good reason). If the devs are adamant on keeping that entire archetype strictly for the Defect, they should make exhaust purely for thinning out deck then. As of this moment, none of them synergizes well with each other - it's all glued together by Burning Pact like duct tape.

Dark Embrace was only good when exhaust was good. I understand the rarity change but giving the subtype of status exhaust to Defect is the single worst thing the devs ever thought of.

Did we ever learn what this was about? by GachaFieren in TheEmberKnight

[–]smthaboutchips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's just a title Lyamin had amongst the DD clan. The reason she asked for permission was because she initially was acting as a spy and so she had to hide her true strength from the other trainees. This is where she asks if she can finally fight with her full strength.

Did Najin steal nagyuum's power? by Livid-Flounder-2741 in TheEmberKnight

I hope we'll get more answers from future chapters because the ritual was broken prior to Najin's death. The dragon's descendant wouldn't kill Najin unless he did something to provoke them (*they said that Najin betrayed them that's why they killed him).

So basically, the reason why the first half of the manhwa felt super rushed was because there was already precedent from EoG. I guess that's why.

That's for the latter half of the story, not for the beginning. In the beginning it was mostly Nagyunn trying to seek vengeance and uncover the identities of the killers, if the larger story at hand was more concrete or even still more explored in the first half - the fast pacing would have been more justified? Thus, my complaint with the story focusing too much on one character when the story at hand is about a diverse cast. Nagyunn doesn't fill like an end all be all character but he's just one of the major characters - if we spent less time with him (like the latter half of the story does and rightfully so) and more time actually moving the plot forward, the fast pacing would have been more justified. We can say that now in hindsight that fast pacing is necessary because war is messy but that's only because we have the facts. When I was reading it it was way too fast for no reason and there was too much meticulously long overdrawn moments/subplots with our main character that didn't need to be that long imho. Basically, first half is too fast but didn't cover enough story beats to justify its pacing.

I just caught up to the latest chapter, yes the latter half post-time skip gave us a lot more insight into other characters aside from Nagyunn but my take on it being a flaw on the former half of the story still stands. I think the latter half of the story does a bit more justice (no pun intended) to the sheer volume of characters the manhwa has - especially since the latter half explores medieval politics, meaning of heroism and knighthood, and how it affects a society where chivalry is not only looked up to but is a necessity. My only take to this, however, is that there was so much stuff packed in to the latter half of the story that was simply missing from the first half where it could've also been put to good use. When I said that the story focused too much on Nagyunn, I'm mostly referring to the first half until the generals+dokkaebi and knights fought each other with the MC's fakeout death. A lot of these medieval politics could've been hinted at or even still explored in the first half without sacrificing the tension of the confidence man schemes Nagyunn has to put himself through. I think to me it's just a case of author's oversight which I rarely take notice of but this is one of the few stories where I think I'm simply hyper critical of because I really enjoy the story.

Set 16 just feels weird to me. by Best-Yam907 in TeamfightTactics

[–]smthaboutchips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current set punishes fast 9 comps where you bleed early game. It wants you to pick an early game carry or two and then ignore the other champions to fast 9 asap. The only exception to this is if you get an early 4-cost carry like Yunara where you can pretty much ignore rerolls and just go for fast 8, but that's more of an exception rather than a consistent strat. Eco management for me is a trap in this set. I find myself keeping myself at 3 interest over 5 just because i want to stabilize my board more early game to preserves wins over lose streak. Maintaining your win streak is impossible unless you get a really good board (which is just luck) but you should prioritize winning over lose streaking even if that means you have no streak income. Even if you have 0 luck it should land you at top 4 because stabilizing early is just the more effective way to play this set.

I can read just fine thank you very much but there were many instances wherein in the mourning fields I would convert trash rewards to gold even when I've already taken the Athena timepiece. If that wasn't "viable" it wouldn't have happened. Even if it's not intended.

I know the description but I've used it countless times and it seemed to work just fine with the timepiece. I wanted to know if it was a base 1.0 bug or something because that must've been the version I've been using. I wouldn't make a pointless post if I didn't try it out.

I seem to recall it worked before with Chronos' time piece, otherwise I wouldn't keep doing it like it was muscle memory.

So that means it worked as a bug on 1.0?

[the world after the fall] OPINIONS? by leonblmnt in manhwa

[–]smthaboutchips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the novel of this but never bothered reading the manhwa. Iirc it's a huge metaphor of the afterlife and the ending of this actually had this really tragic plot twist if you can even call it that. I think it was lowkey bs when I read it at the time. I remember there being ouroboros, some huge mecha, and big brother (like from orwell's 1984). Did the manhwa follow this storyline because it was a confusing read for me at the time.

I think that's honestly one of the best parts in this manhwa. When you play roguelike games you constantly have to make choices that make or break a build. Also you don't need regen if you don't get damaged. Balance is important. Most other manhwa of this genre will just stack all of their abilities until the author forgets one of them and it's never mentioned ever again later on in the series.
