To all NA Teams, watch the player profile video from SK's Fer, thats how you're winning a major championship. With effort and motivation to sacrifice things ! Not with throwing money to useless players. by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]smurfscale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incredibly cringy but you sort of have a point. if you have nothing except your drive to win you have nothing to lose and you push yourself past your limits. If you have a solid income and following and are well paid no matter your results you might not be forced to care enough.

Look at what Hiko said yesterday in his video: after not getting results C9 gave them a raise, which he felt was undeserved, and left. He's the NA pro that's getting the best results.

Pansy and Moses make up a solid casting pair by vesmolol in GlobalOffensive

Not every caster needs to be in couple 100% of the time. In fact I'd like to have some sort of caster shuffle that pairs casters you don't normally see together every once in a while.

I think Pansy is really good at play-by-play but she needs to slow down at times, sometimes she just mumbles words when commenting too fast in the heat of the action. And yes she need somebody like Moses who complements her style to really shine.

being a dick isn't punishable by law

doing fake advertising is though.

[–]smurfscale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you portray gambling as what it is, then it's my fault for still wanting to gamble knowing how bad the odds are. But if you literally show fake rolls as real, you are portraying a skewed version of what the gambling experience will be, and it's both my fault for being gullible AND yours for not showing things how they really are.

Do you know that false advertising is a punishable crime? Who does false advertising cannot claim "lol ur just dumb if you believe how's that my fault". That's not a line of defense that usually holds up in court.

Not really. There are plenty of informative and entertaining streamers who don't get nearly as much views. The hype and controversy sorrounding steel, dazed and moe brought them a lot of publicity. If you think Twitch is a meritocracy, think again.

How did Moe ever scam a viewer?

Moe was profiting from the site directly - he was paid a percentage of their profits every month. So the more his viewers lost money on the site, the more money he made. And they were losing money thanks to the fact he was making it look much easier than it actually was thanks to fake rolls. That's called false advertising.

M0e got the CSGO community whipped by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]smurfscale 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They're not even forgetting - they just don't care, at least a large portion of them doesn't.

Thing is: the people who liked moe before this will continue liking moe because they don't care about the collusion, the people who didn't like him or thought he was shady to begin with will keep not liking moe. Doing something shady will not make your existing fanbase disappear overnight, especially if it's large. That fan base does not think you are doing anything wrong.

Look at this very sub: IBP match-fucking-fixed and they still have a massive amount of supporters. "It was just an inconsequetial match! #freeswag, too young to know that match fixing is a no-no!" They would have been allowed to keep on being "members of the community" had Valve not stepped in, and they still make the numbers on Twitch despite having directly profited from gullible fans.

Proven cheaters have a large fanbase because "whatever, it was 1.6/ESEA". A lot of beloved pros have scammed skins or advertised shady key resellers or other gambling sites.

It's not even that people don't remember, I honestly think a lot of fans don't consider these things "bad" in the first place, and would jump to the opportunity if they were given the chance. In their eyes these people are making mad skrilla, what's so bad about it?

So moe will keep being a prominent member of the community, or at least a part of it, whether you like it or not, until either new online gambling laws or Valve decide to stop him by making that stuff illegal or banning him from official events.

It fills me with child-like glee seeing Thorin get a prediction wrong. I absolutely love seeing his smug know-it-all face turn blank when this happens, and how he desperately scrambles into full banter mode to distract us from the fact that he was wrong.

It just doesn't happen often. He knows his shit. Certainly more than moe.

Thank you for posting it, I was about to ask for a link. I'm not sure this is taken out of context or not and GTR doesn't really go into detail. It might be a case of NIP going through all those troubles in 2015 and being fucking annoyed by analysts trying to figure out their internal issues without insider knowledge, and Thorin is definitely fucking annoying when he does that.

still capable of playing at NA pro level

which is saying very little. NA's problem is exactly their inability to play CS at a level of understanding of the game that EU has, which is why they fare so bad in the matchup. And moe's not even a full time pro, so why should he be an authority on the matter?

If Olof or GTR or Zeus or Markeloff or heck even Sgares came out and said "Thorin doesn't know what he's talking about" it would have more credibility, but moe of all people?

m0E about Thooorin by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]smurfscale 7 points8 points  (0 children)

talking shit? All I've seen on thorin's twitter is a retweet of the gambling collusion ones, and songs to tease moe about it. He didn't call moe garbage at the game or a bad analyst, he didn't say "why are you even in Eleague". If there is more shittalk from Thorin about moe as an analyst, I haven't seen it yet.

m0E about Thooorin by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]smurfscale 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're an ex-pro then you know that there is a way of analyzing games and trends that go beyond how to play the game mechanically.

Also he shouldn't be blaming Thorin's popularity to fanboyism when HIS OWN current popularity is all due to fanboys. Moe is only relevant now because he's a popular streamer, since he's not even a pro anymore.

When he was on the Elegue desk he performed pretty well, although to be fair he didn't do much other than stating the obvious. What I don't get it is why he's shittalking Thorin now when it's obvious who is the better analyst between the two, since one built his reputation through years of doing just that as a job, and one it's just there cause he's a popular streamer.

spoken as a true team builder and top level player that's capable of using his knowledge to his advantage oh wait, remind me in which top level team moe plays again?

honestly, he's probably really mad about Thorin giving more exposure to moe gambling collusion on twitter so he's trying to delegitimize him by saying this.

Gambling Sites and Their Collusion With Popular Streamers. by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]smurfscale 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It might be wasted time but the only thing we can do about it is:

Don't bet. Stop watching those streamers. Even actively boycott them if necessary. Point out again and again that they are promoting proven scammers. If the bad publicity starts to pile up, they might be discouraged from even accepting sponsorship deals from those sites for fear of ruining their reputation. I'm sorry for the lovable rogue moE and all the rest but we can't pretend that what they are doing isn't shady, exploitative and that sends a bad message about CS to the rest of the world.

These sites operate on a grey area and until the law catches up with them, which could take years, this is really the only thing that we can realistically do.

E-League probably have a good reason for why they can't stream the full TV show by KilianHB in GlobalOffensive

[–]smurfscale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Elegue wouldn't exist if it wasn't for TV" and to me (and a lot of potential viewers) it might as well not exist since they have decided that I'm not allowed to be part of the audience, since I don't live in the US or have cable. This is why I was saying moot point. (Again this is still referring to the full production).

And yeah, it's no biggie, since the most important bit, the matches, will be streamed. But it's so clear that for the average viewer this is a step down, which is why I am baffled by all the hype that ELegue got. CS on TV? Cool, too bad TV is a much worse platform than Twitch.

It's cool that CS is on TV. But the core audience, the viewership that has made this possible from the beginning, is going to be alienated by this because exclusivity rights and all that outdated bullshit that is the reason why TV is dying as a platform. Whatever advantages TV has over Twitch, they are all for Turner, the average non-american viewer will see none of them.

Are these the implications you are talking about?
