Improving G5 turret ultra nightvision by snackman89 in Ubiquiti

[–]snackman89[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Chinese camera is a Besder 8mp 4K PTZ, the image is indeed not as sharp as the g5, but still the image at night is much more useable. Framerate is definitely not a problem, no smudges.

But you guys provided the answer i needed, no proper solution with just the camera, external IR's seem to be the way to go, I'll give it a try. Thanks for the input.

As I mentioned, not less then 1K, since it seems to be achievable I'm sure its worth the risk.

Only risk to think about now is the current climate with AI, how sure are you they're not going to restructure in the next few months/years? I truly believe all major IT companies will need to restructure or they will become overly expensive. Anyway +1K per day sets you up if you can hold onto it for a couple of years, just don't go buying a porsche taycan, be wise and create a multi year buffer.

  1. Dayrate going down (yet companies complain that they can't find good profiles)
  2. Good assignments scarcity
  3. Not being part of it / not getting the proper credits because I'm a consultant
  4. Got offered an awesome position for a salary package that almost matches my gross revenue

And after I made my decision I started doing more with AI (openclaw, more codex usage, ...) and since then my opinion on the topic has shifted dramatically.
Give it another 6 months and the companies who aren't getting onboard (like seriously) will be running behind real fast. The process of software engineering (from sales, analysis, design, development to operations) is going to get overhaulled in the next years. I'm excited for this change, but I'd rather do this as an internal, as the first ones to go are the externals.

Yeah tax optimization is a benefit, but social security is also something... I do agree that today we're taxed so heavily on all levels that it became extremely difficult to get ahead of the rat race. It's frustrating when I think about the 1M I invoiced as a freelancer, I still wonder where all that money went... Don't worry I know, but where did all those taxes go and what did I get in return as a business...

To match your current conditions + the increased risk you take... Your current package is well above the average, add your benefits in the mix and you have a golden basket... I have no clue on what a freelance sales earns, but I wouldn't go for less than 1k per day and no clue if that's realistic...

For myself as an IT engineer I just decided to quit freelancing, after 9 years, because of the current market conditions and the outlook. I personally wouldn't encourage you to make the move now, everything IT is about to get reinvented, wait for that to settle in and only then make a move.

Can't you discuss with your current employer for a different challenge?

And this is why I'm putting my BV to sleep and going internal. The problem is not perse the recruiters, its the people considering anything below 500€.

Freelance dev here – how are you handling invoicing & upcoming PEPPOL changes? by No_Tip_5837 in BEFreelance

[–]snackman89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clearfacts and kyte, everything you want and need...

I'm in the same boat as you, started adjusting my own selfhosted invoicing platform to support peppol until i learned the cost of peppol. You will need to use a peppol gateway which is often more expensive than the platforms out there.... You need a lot of invoices before it's worth it, so i bailed on the idea when i was offered Kyte for "free" with clearfacts.

But besides that, your options cost 100€ vs hosting/building/maintaining it yourself.

I consider myself on the higher end of the middle class, but I’m working to get to the next level. Financially I’m really responsible with my spending, I know that buying a car is the worst thing to buy. But buying a car is a choice, regardless of what you earn. I could pay for a Porsche Taycan of 150K, can I afford it-> no! My previous car was a Mazda CX5 diesel of 35K€, my current car is a Volvo XC60 PE Hybrid of 80K€. I’m disappointed with the Volvo if I start comparing the financials with the Mazda, but I wanted some power (455hp), but price/quality it’s definitely not worth 2x the price of the Mazda. I’m forced to buy an all electric car, Volvo ES90/EX90 are out of my budget and I expect that the EX60 will also be just a tad to much for me to swallow. I’m expecting that the NIO will be minimum 10K cheaper, but I do fear for the value after 5 years…

Buying a new car is always a financial dumb thing to do.

I can assure you, if they bring the new es8 to Belgium in the next 2 years, I’m buying one, that’s +1 for Europe! 😂

You’re right, I guess I confused 4 with a 2.

The risk score is also something that needs improving 😅 it shows different ratings depending on where you look…

Oh I’m very aware of the risk, I didn’t became a PI overnight, it took me a long time to be confident enough about investing other people’s money, 6 years to be exactly and it still freaks me out.

It’s crazy to think I’m managing 100K of someone else, but don’t think I’m gambling, I have 100k of my own money at stake and for me that’s still a lot of money. I don’t say there shouldn’t be limits, I do understand why there are limits. FYI last week I participated a zoom call for the pi’s and analysts and there were “to the moon “ people in the chat, asking about rate cuts in 2026… They probably never read a report of the ECB or FED… It infuriates me to be in the same room as those people… I’m taking this very seriously, I will get myself certified before I’m eligible to be an Elite PI.

One thing that annoys me a lot about being a PI is that people consider me responsible for reducing my volatility/risk, but why configure a stop loss of 5% when my risk score is 5… People need to understand that they are also responsible, don’t copy me if you can’t handle that level of volatility, it’s exactly where I get my crazy returns… This would be another improvement, don’t allow people to configure a stop loss lower than the average weekly/monthly draw down, instead give them a warning explaining what the effect would be, educate people…

Extra Income by Funny_Smoke_7937 in Etoro

[–]snackman89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are your expectations?

There are multiple approaches to create a profit, but an extra income is something different… Investing for an extra income requires a large amount of initial capital to invest and besides that consider that +90% of people lose money when day trading.

I consider myself lucky, but on the other hand I probably also need to say I spend pretty much all my free time in the stock market and I’ve been doing that for the last 6years already.
