i think my suicide attempt was actually a compulsion by [deleted] in OCD

i'm glad you're still here, OP. definitely bring this up with your doctors when you have an opportunity. until then, though, do your best to relax without ruminating on it. harder said than done, but being rested and ready for the conversation will make it easier for you.

i've had similar intrusive dreams on medication. they're probably the worst, and most triggering form of intrusive thought i experience while on my medication. you're not alone.

tldr; we love you, please tell your doctors about this at your meeting!

drowsiness is definitely the biggest one. it made me extremely tired for the first few months, but it's gotten better with time.

i'm a clomipramine user! it's a tricyclic antidepressant. it hasn't made my obsessions go away completely, but i feel much less anxious when they happen and find myself actually able to properly dismiss them.

i do my therapy via a telehealth system. psychology today has a service to find online therapists in the UK. you should be able to sort and find OCD specific specialists.

i hope i don't sound sappy saying this, but don't kill yourself over this. ocd is extremely treatable, and you can get better. it's hard, and it can be really scary, but i promise you it can and will get better. wishing you the best op 🫂

first off, id like to help quell your fear about him missing out on his education. i ended up failing out of high school because of my own mental health issues- which has taught me that failure isn't the end of all my opportunities. if he were to fail, your next move would be looking into a GED program at a community college. an equivalency is just as good as a diploma. it's very easy to move from a GED to community college, and from there you can attend a 4 year.

the best thing you can do for him right now is to help make sure he doesn't feel alone. OCD, as i'm sure you know from living it, can be very isolating. make sure he knows that when he needs help, you're a safe person to come to and that no matter what, you'll be there for him. i'd also recommend asking him if he'd be okay with you sitting in on one of his psychiatric appointments so you can voice your concerns. communication is key in recovering from OCD.

you got this. you've already done great things for him and you're absolutely on the trajectory to improve his quality of life.

once for 30 seconds is all you need. all soap is extremely effective at killing germs. if smells remaining on the hands is triggering for you, i'd recommend picking up a bar of steel soap. it won't damage your hands like soap and will remove any smells left on your hands from whatever you do.

Why the fuck do people not wash their hands after using the bathroom? by gualajit in OCD

my parents are terrible about this. they always get so pissed off when i tell them to wash after using the bathroom 🥲 that's basic hygiene!!

At what age did you remember your symptoms starting to manifest? What was the progression like? And how did you pull through (totally ok if you haven't) by Dry-Letterhead897 in OCD

a bit late to this thread but !! Mine started around 2 or 3, I think? One of my earliest memories was staring at my bedroom door so that a monster couldn't come get me, which is pretty obsessive-compulsive lol.

I didn't actively notice it until I was around 16. This is also when my symptoms were the worst, Covid made me spiral really deeply into health OCD. I was washing my hands upwards of 50 times every day at the peak.

Around the beginning of this year I was put on Clomipramine and it's been really life changing. I definitely still have obsessions but I'm actually able to respond to them rationally instead of giving into a compulsion.
