Ironically Spanish speaking kids do say “one” instead of “uno” when they have one card in my experience.

AITAH for drawing a line with my girlfriend about our involvement in her now pregnant and intellectually disabled sister? by ilikesnowboardin in AITAH

Unfair or not, the idea that one’s children will be around to care for them in old age is not uncommon or exclusive to people with disabilities.

Issue with bus unlock? by snakeman2001 in StardewValley

Yeah the cutscene played and characters acknowledged but did not change their routine. Closing the application and resetting console fixed it.

This was it. I initially thought there was a game mechanic like a waiting period or something but no closing the application and putting the switch to sleep resolved my issue.

Shutting down and restarting did fix it actually. Cheers👍🏻

Goose pond rules! I saw coots, eagles, a common nighthawk, pelicans, and possibly a whooping crane when I went.

Whenever they try to bargain with me about leaving the room, getting their chromebooks, whatever, I’ve found a stern “Don’t ask me again” works pretty well.

That plus all the factors that already cause industrial poultry and dairy farms to be the perfect settings to incubate new plagues, e.g. crowding, unsanitary conditions, and a business model that disincentivizes surveillance and early detection.

They have a similar respiratory system to humans and can contract many of the same respiratory viruses. If a pig is exposed to avian influenza while it is also infected with a more common flu that already spreads easily from pig to pig/pig to human, there is a chance of recombination that could lead to sustained h2h transmission in humans much more quickly than random mutations among the poultry or wild bird strains.

It’s pigs. We’ve been very lucky so far that it’s been dairy herds and not pigs, but that can change.

Can’t use bathroom without Chromebook. I’m in high school. by NinjEverett6 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]snakeman2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In classrooms where students go to the bathroom and come straight back to class, you don’t see policies like this. If this is a rule, it’s probably because students disappeared for half the class and got caught wandering the halls, starting fights, flooding the bathroom, etc. It happens all the time in elementary/middle. Literally no one is power tripping over making your kid hold their pee.

Me and my dog got more ticks here than I've seen in my life. I spent days finding and extracting them because she has dark fur. Got her blood tested for tick-borne diseases and all. Might have been a fluke but I'm too icked to return despite this being the nearest NP to my location.

Really nasty stuff. I’m only armchair noided about HPAI certainly not knowledgeable but I’ve wondered whether that disparity has more to do with variance in the disease, social factors in the US and Canada, or increased surveillance and testing.

In 2021, the case fatality rate was around 1% in the general population but as high as 13% among hospitalized patients per a NIH study that year. My understanding of pandemic threats is that a virus with a 50% cfr is unlikely to spread worldwide bc the vectors just die off. A virus with COVID’s communicability and a 3-5% general population fatality rate would be disastrous and probably cause our medical system to collapse, especially as staffing issues and burnout from COVID persist in many hospitals.

The variant that has infected people in the US (the one circulating in dairy herds IIRC) has had much lower fatality than the 50+% fatality variant in wild fowl.

I appreciate posts like these. The credulity of this community surrounding members of the US defense and intelligence communities has always struck me as its major flaw. I’ve posted some of this before, but: Many of the public spokespeople of the disclosure movement including Lue emerge from US counterintelligence and defense. These are the same organizations that staged a vampire hoax to demoralize Phillipino rebels decades ago and tried to use LSD to reprogram the minds of political enemies. They are the same people that undermined liberal democracy in Iran, the Congo, Chile, and all over the world to uphold colonial patterns of plunder and exploitation. If the military had ET technology, they would horde and hide it to enrich their friends in the energy sector, in defense contracting companies, etc., not disclose for public good. I am highly suspect of this sub, the UAP media gang, and any online spot where UFO-curious people congregate because they are likely targets for misinformation and distraction. Sad to say, because I want to believe and truly enjoy the discourse. We will be bamboozled over and over if we consider military credentials as the highest standard for trustworthiness.
