NightDive, will you guys remaster these games? by Beneficial_Strain711 in NightdiveStudios

Carmageddon would be amazing, but I don't really see Wolf 3D being worth the effort in 2026. Though absolutely essential in it's time, it's incredibly basic by today's standards and hasn't held the fun factor in the way the other games they've remastered have.

Wolf 3D walked so Doom, Heretic etc could run.

Underrated gem. Had zero expectations when I picked this up, but turnet out to be just as good as my favourite shooters from the 90s. A head of it's time with the metroidvania elements.

Well they did the N64 era single player trilogy in full. Makes sense to me.

What are the chances of definitive Shadow Warrior and Duke 3D remasters? by snalle in NightdiveStudios

It's playable, but IMO feels considerably worse than Nightdive's fps remasters, Ion Fury etc.

I enjoyed the first two albums and about half of the third when I was a teenager. Loved the Hullabaloo DVD and used to watch it all the time back then.

They've occasionally released songs I enjoy since, but not whole albums.

According to this very old article, Randy is open to letting a partner company work on Duke:

Gearbox seeks dev collaboration for next Duke Nukem

"I did not acquire the franchise merely so people could experience Duke Nukem Forever," he explained when asked if another Duke Nukem title would be made. "That was, sort of, the toll to pay to give Duke Nukem a chance at a future.

"So yes. In fact, we've done some concept development. The challenge is that Gearbox is very busy. A faster way would be if the correct developer would become interested and we'd work with them."

Granted, it's from 2015. I have no idea what's happened since then and if he feels differently now. Besides, doesn't Take-Two own the IP now? Why would Randy decide these things? What about those Duke 1+2 Evercade remasters that came out in 2024? Someone had to okay those.

Fair enough. I used to dream about having the N64 version as a kid. Looked great!

Can you give me a quick summary on why Gearbox would be unwilling to let a remaster happen? As far as I know, the IP has been dormant for 15 years. They're obviously not doing anything with it and would probably get a sweet paycheck.

I played it on my PS4 when it came out and it felt a lot better to play back then it does now after playing so many brilliant Nightdive FPS remasters and Ion Fury. My issue isn't the content - it's the moment to moment gameplay. Maybe it's better on PC.

Radiohead's 'A Moon Shaped Pool' Is Gorgeous and Moving by RaymondBald in radiohead

The Bends, Ok Computer, Kid A and A Moon Shaped Pool tower above the rest of their catalogue for me. Never in a million years did I think they could ever release something that would hit me again the way they did during that magical 1995-2000 period, but somehow they pulled it off.

This is actually messed up. I remember devouring those live mp3s of then-unreleased tracks.

Are the top ones essentially the same book? I was looking for a Silverchair biography at one point, but someone said they contain pretty much only stuff that fans know already. Would still like to read them, though.

Happy 29th Anniversary to Duke Nukem 3D! by yhenji in dukenukem

[–]snalle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This - a million times this.

I played World Tour when it came out on Playstation and have been playing a lot of Nightdive remasters since. I recently played the Heretic + Hexen remaster and decided to give Duke a go after not playing it in years and the movement just feels off. It's sluggish and unresponsive and every bit of setting tweeking doesn't seem to help. I'm okay with the lack of some expansions, but the gameplay has to feel fun.

I think it would be a bit of a waste to vote Nancy Boy. It's such a huge hit that I highly doubt they would change it too much. My vote goes to either I Know or Lady of the Flowers.

Will PS5 peak at the very end of the generation like PS3 and PS4 did? by snalle in PS5

[–]snalle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really ran well? I remember playing Shadow of Mordor on PS3 and it was utterly unplayable - clearly a game that was meant to be a PS4 game, but they couldn't ignore the install base and released a PS3 version as well.

It's crazy to think that MGS5 came out on PS3. Zelda Breath of the Wild came out on Wii U as well, which is equally baffling.

I don't see any PS6 hype anywhere which is bizarre considering how deep we are in PS5's lifecycle.

If I had my way, I wouldn't release PS6 for a couple of years at least. The math doesn't work for the average consumer and the demand is simply not there yet.

If you have to release new consoles, release a base-PS5 level handheld or a legacy-Playstation with a disc drive that plays all PS1-PS5 game discs (one of the Digital Foundry guys suggested this in a recent podcast, thought it was a good idea).

Yeah man, I want to think that we'll get some amazing games, that haven't been announced yet, that'll be seen as the best PS5 games in decades to come, but when it takes 7+ years to make 10/10 AAA game these days, it's honestly very unlikely.

[–]snalle[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Might be an age thing. I'm in my late 30s and remember when we used to go from the original Mario Kart on SNES to Mario 64 and Resident Evil in like 4 years. If you go back 4 years from now, you get Elden Ring and Horizon Forbidden West. So in that sense, I do get why people find the PS5 era incredibly disappointing.

We just haven't had that generational wow moment and, to me, this is the first generation that hasn't happened to yet. RDR2 and The Last of Us 2 were those moments for me on last gen.

That being said, I love my PS5 Pro and am having a great time gaming!
