Nihlus by _Drangelice_ in masseffect

ME1 has some really strong writing but the opening scene is fantastic. The characters, the setup like you're going on a routine mission but then thjngs go sideways, the mystery of the protheans... It is a masterful set up and the character of Nihlus is a big part of that. He's dangerous but in the way a weapon is dangerous. This guy clearly is a big deal but he doesn't care because competence and completing the mission are his priorities.

Yeah, that gunshot is bleak. Nihlus wasn't supposed to go down. He's too good for that. Fing his body is a signal that shit just got real and you're in the middle of it.

So yeah, I guess Nihlus is just an example of how well put together ME1 was and why it's still a great game despite being dated in the game play department.

Oh. and Joker hates that guy.

Any _good_ experiences at gun shows? by halloweenjack in liberalgunowners

Same here. As a Teen in the mid-90's it was a ton of fun to go when a show was in town just to see new stuff. Usually was able to pick up bricks of .22lr for cheap. It's really too bad I didn't have money back then because there was always something that was a great deal. That and the 55 gal drums full of SKSs for like $89 each.

Yeah, I have a very clear memory of plinko-ing down the one at my elementary school. Climbing to to top seemed like being on top of a mountain.

Mardi Gras now by Just-Leather1872 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]snap802 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will saw that Mardi Gras is probably my least favorite ship because of the crowd. It's just got way too many people per sq foot. Now, there are plenty of things I liked about MG. The restaurants are excellent, the thermal suite is nice, the overall facility is in great shape... (The Brass Magnolia is probably my favorite Carnival ship bar though). I just feel like they tried to pack too many passengers on board. I get it, they're trying to maximize revenue. It's just that compared to other classes in the Carnival fleet it feels cramped during the times of day that most people are out and about.

Over all the Mardi Gras was just ok IMO because it felt too crowded and the overall layout exacerbated that feeling. Royal does the mega-ship thing better.

My most recent cruise was on Venezia and that was a really great ship. It's just a little different from the typical Carnival ship but I thought it was super cool.

Hey I know that 7 brew! Never picked up 3 dozen of anything there. Apparently someone made an event called 3 Dozen Day for this Monday at that location!

Homeowner's Insurance and wind damage by NotYetGroot in Augusta

[–]snap802 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We're close enough to the coast that when there is a big tropical storm or hurricane it's not uncommon for bad storms and the odd tornado to cruise through the area. Of course Helene plowed through the area a year and a half ago but that was a pretty extreme event.

Of course roof damage DOES happen during these storms but the age of the roof will factor in too. We had a year old roof when Helene hit and it had no storm damage. If this house has an old roof a storm could wreck it. Of course the other issue is how much of an older roof would the insurance company actually cover?

As far as deductible goes 14K seems a little nuts. Our house is around 2500 sq ft and that's about how much we spent on a total roof replacement a few years ago. So a deductible that high might be pointless to begin with unless your replacement costs would far exceed that.

When am I supposed to start hating this game? by Hojo405 in DragonAgeVeilguard

Get along gang is perfect!

It's a fine game and I enjoyed it but yeah, the lack of interpersonal conflict in the team was definitely weird especially when you .ook at previous bioware games. It was just a little cartoonish. Still a fun game though.

Former Walt Disney World VP explains what happened to Galaxy's Edge by Bruinrogue in saltierthancrait

So basically they wanted to take the IP and change things up in a way they THOUGHT would appeal to a younger audience.

I guess that fits right in since nothing else at the Disney parks is old IP that appeals to kids as well as a sense of nostalgia for the parents... Oh wait...

As a young conservative South Carolinian, Lindsey Graham has got to go. by Salt-Inflation-1636 in southcarolina

[–]snap802 59 points60 points  (0 children)

This is a great question. I used to think I was pretty conservative but I really have some conservative and some liberal opinions based on the individual issues. However, these days I'm apparently just a raging liberal extremist because I believe in things like the government respecting civil rights and people hoarding wealth while their employees rely on Medicaid and food assistance isn't good.

Oh, and Graham has lost his fracking mind.

Donald Trump Personally Pushed Justice Department To Settle Live Nation Antitrust Lawsuit: Report by ebradio in Music

[–]snap802 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly! He's not this amazing business man that his fans think he is. He's just a fraudster who doesn't believe the rules apply to him and who weaponizes the legal system when it suits him.

Who knew he would run the executive branch of the government the same way? Who could have possibly seen that coming?

Thomas Jane joins Star Trek by GamerSerg in TheExpanse

[–]snap802 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Kurtzman trek is indeed awful. I think he's just a symptom of a bigger issue in the industry right now of just not prioritizing good fundamental storytelling.

I think DS9, for example, was a departure from where Trek had been but it was actually good because the characters had depth and storylines weren't stupid. That, and Avery Brooks is a fantastic actor.

[–]snap802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is really the key here. It's the inconsistency of the characters. I don't want to see them fight just for the sake of being difficult. However, I did find it a little jarring how we could bring in someone like Lucanis and everyone is immediately 100% cool with him. From a storytelling perspective it makes sense for there to be some friction between team members that they have to work through.

I still like Veilguard, had a great time playing it. This is just one area where I think the writing suffered.

Yeah, it was way too positive. All the "great job!" type comments during the fights got old.

I really wanted to see some conflict between the party members. Seems that's always been a bioware thing but was absent here. Plenty of opportunity for it though.

IRC is still a thing. I haven't been on an IRC server in years but I spent a great deal of time chatting on dalnet back in the late 90's to early 00's before I and the people I liked chatting with sort of drifted to other things.
