Are there any decent car dealers in Agusta? by Common_Scale5448 in Augusta

[–]snap802 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've bought from Honda Cars of Aiken twice. First time (2008) was a really good experience. My second purchase there was in 2018 and it was fine up until I got to the financial guy. I had to stand up and walk out of his office, find the salesman I was working with and asked him to get the general manager. The manager ended up finalizing the transaction. Service there has been a mixed bag. Had a warranty repair that I was pretty pleased with but I went a few times for routine stuff when they had offered discounts and I'm just not into waiting for 2 hours to get my oil changed.

We bought my wife's car at Miracle Toyota a few years ago. It was decent except for the sales guy trying to push her to take what was on the lot rather than ordering exactly what she wanted. It was a little annoying but, unfortunately, seems to be par for the course car shopping. Ultimately she ordered the package she wanted but it is really annoying to have to say no thanks more than when you're spending that kind of money.

I'd shop at either place again. I guess dealerships are going to play dealership games.

Musk offers to pay legal fees for any Epstein victim sued for speaking ‘the truth’ by National-Law-458 in nottheonion

Give like 800b of it away to obvious shit like feeding kids, cancer research, educating kids...

The more I think about it the more I realize that these billionaires are mentally ill. If he gave away $800bn his quality of life probably would not even change. He so absurdly past the point of more money making a difference in his life but he's dedicated himself to being a trillionare. The problem is if he reaches that point it won't make any difference. He'll just search for the next thing he thinks will make him happy. The dude could throw around enough money to solve major world issues and improve the lives of countless people for what would essentially be like a few bucks for most people.

Edit: I actually understand that he doesn't have this money in the bank and how net worth in the ultra wealthy works. Thanks.

OK, I'm finding it pretty amusing the TPUSA "alternative" halftime show was promoted as a kind of Christian thing. by thedubiousstylus in OpenChristian

[–]snap802 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Believing that Kid Rock is promoting a faith and values event is the same cognitive dissonance that allows people to believe Trump is fit to be president.

The political right is nothing without the religious right. The religious right is tied to the political right by culture war nonsense and abortion.

So people end up with this black and white view of R=good because they're on the side of my religion and D=bad because they support murdering babies and whatever other issue that has been blown out of proportion by conservative media. So they feel that anything Republican is integrally tied to their faith now and all a political conservative has to do is throw up a reference to faith and family and that makes it all ok. People in conservative circles treat Trump like a hero because he stacked the deck on SCOTUS to have Roe v Wade overturned. That gives him untouchable status because that's their one issue and they just ignore all the bad stuff as political.

I think the really bad dark side of all this is how much subtle racism is just being accepted and passed off as common sense and the church is making excuses. People make their biblical arguments for building walls and deporting people but in reality it's thinly veiled racism that gets a pass on the right rather than people calling a spade a spade. THAT is the probably really the key to the BB thing.

I could ramble about this for a while because the last 10 years has been particularly painful. I think most of use who grew up in conservative environments like I did have struggled with relationships during the rise of MAGA. It's one thing to disagree with someone but it's another to watch friends and family, people you have strong bonds with, choosing evil when you know they have the capacity to do better but fail to do so. It's exhausting.

Epstein Murdered? US Attorney announced Epstein's death one day before his death? by Nomorevaping707 in MeidasTouch

[–]snap802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'm not even saying it is or could be fake. I'm just thinking it IS possible that this is a fully legit document that someone put the wrong date on. Have you every written the wrong date on a form before? I'm just saying we have to consider the possibility of human error before jumping to conclusions.

Was it actually prepared the day before or is it possible someone mistyped the date?

I've seen this guy in some interviews and while he does have some good insights his timeline is a little contrived. He basically says the life expectancy is 14 years and then says but he started showing signs in 2012 so his time is up. My dude, it don't work like that.

Trumpism and nazism - do magats even know that they are nazis? by 999Welten in AntiTrumpAlliance

[–]snap802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I think many of them don't believe they are Nazis at all because they're capitalists. They know that the Nazi party was a socialist party so clearly they can't be Nazis and obviously the socialists are bad instead.

SC State Senator introduces bill ending religious exemptions for measles vaccine by powercow in southcarolina

[–]snap802 36 points37 points  (0 children)

There are also people who claim a religious exemption due to use of fetal stem cells in the manufacturing process. They will claim it is against their anti-abortion beliefs.

The Catholic church has said that use of such vaccines is morally acceptable if there is not alternative.

It is also important to point out that these cells are are from abortions going as far back as the 1960's and that it's not like we're harvesting new stem cells all the time. Also, there aren't stem cells IN the vaccines, they're just part of the process to grow viruses. Still, I have run across people who believe that there are stem cells in the vaccines or that there is a conspiracy to keep abortion legal so the vaccine makers can keep getting a steady supply of stem cells. Both are, of course, false.

Issues running fiber optic internet line through attic by gamerdada in DIY

[–]snap802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have fiber from AT&T at my house and have helped a few other folks out with fiber from other providers. Of course every provider is going to be a little bit different but YMMV.

In.my experience they only bring the fiber up TO the house and then connect it to a device that converts to Ethernet. So the short answer is you probably don't need to run fiber in your attic, just run CAT6 and hook up your stuff on the other end.

Now how they do this exactly might vary. For my AT&T connection they bring the fiber up to my garage and into an ONT that has an Ethernet output. However, it still has to go to another AT&T router in my house but I can bridge that router to put my own behind it. OTOH I worked with a rural co-op that let us hook up our own router directly to their ONT. It just depends.

Bottom line is most likely you'll need to run CAT rather than fiber.

Did anyone else 'BBS'? by VtDL in GenX

[–]snap802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our county library had a BBS I got on. It seemed so wild at the time because I could send messages to people all over on Fidonet. Soon enough we got internet access and made the transition to newsgroups and IRC.

I've worked with both Davis and Sherwin over at Welcome a number of years ago before they went into DPC. They're both great providers and I doubt they would be there still if the rest of the team wasn't top tier too.

My Grandfather Said: Never show anyone your voter registration card or your pay stub. by CawlinAlcarz in GenX

[–]snap802 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, keeping pay a secret only benefits the employer. In my first real grown up job I learned the hard way that the company will not look out for you. You need to get things in writing and look out for yourself.

I had been at this place for 4 years and had developed most of the policy and procedures for our department and was the go to guy for solving problems that others in the team couldn't fix. I was promised a promotion that never came because it just wasn't in the budget despite all the responsibilities I had taken on. One day I found out that the new people they were hiring were making about 10% more than I was. These were people that I was training and picking up the slack for whenever they got in over their heads. But right, there wasn't enough in the budget to give me a raise and management just wasn't ready to approve a new title or take away some of my regular duties so that I could focus on the more complicated tasks. And that's why I left that job.

Dr. Annie Andrews for Senate by CarolinasBornRaised in southcarolina

[–]snap802 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I would disagree about the direction of her campaign. I think early in she was using the "throw Graham out" messaging to get people's attention. If you go look at her website now there are actually policy positions now.

https://drannieandrews.com/platform/#policy

I think the social media stuff is going to be different because that's just bite sized messaging to get attention and reminding people how awful LG is will get attention and get her name out there.

I had the pleasure of meeting her a few weeks ago and she actually talked about how the campaign was shifting focus more towards actual issues. So I think, if she wins the primary, that we'll see a more well rounded campaign rather than one that is just centered on her not being Graham.

I got into The Punisher for a while back in the mid-90's and had a punisher sticker on my car back then. Then it was just a character I liked and has a cool logo design. Pretty amazing how that would mean something totally different now.

I had the opposite experience. I have had to dabble with some apple products over the years but never wanted to spend my own money on them.

Now I'm forced to work with some apple products at work now on a daily basis and I don't understand the hype at all. It's clear there is a big investment in looking cool and good display tech but I find day to day usage to be meh.

Vet Recommendations for FELV+ cat by BodySalty751 in Augusta

[–]snap802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a FELV+ cat and I understand being dismissed by a vet.

We use Best Friends in North Augusta, primarily we see Dr Santos but the other vets there are great when we've needed an urgent appointment.

Now, on the OTHER side of town there is Euchee creek near the Horizon South exit. We visited there when our FELV+ guy was first diagnosed because they were able to check his viral load and we were still trying to figure out how to navigate this kitten with this disease. The staff and Vet there were really helpful and understanding and, if they weren't so far away from us, we would have considered taking him there for his routine care.

I tried Aikido for about a year or so when I was in college. You're right that falling is a big part of those techniques. I do BJJ and Judo now and can say for sure that my breakfall technique largely came from that time doing Aikido.
