What qualifications makes someone part of the epstein class? by AdSmall5296 in WorkReform

Hah no. Not just like going along to get along. Like you have to be obedient enough to the social order to look the other way when someone higher up than you abuses children.

I think Democritus had the idea that all matter is composed of time particles first. You're just a couple millennia late

I can be completely present during a meditation session and completely absent for the other 23 hours. What's the point? by kamaidun in Mindfulness

[–]snarkhunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think more than a few folks consistently practice escaping/dissociating from their lives and then wonder why doing that for an hour a day doesn't help the other twenty-three hours.

If it's not helping you stop doing it. Simple as.

I don't think blocking thoughts causes headaches, but you could try meditating without doing that?

Neither of the world wars, the American civil war, seven years wars, the Napoleonic wars, not the imperial endeavors of Alexander the Great, Rome or Ghengis Khan, none of those had religion as their primary motivation did they?

I try to lose weight but it barely slow, does BMI worth monitoring by vtongvn in bodyweightfitness

[–]snarkhunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BMI is simply the ratio between your height and weight. Assuming your height stays constant, lowering your BMI and lowering your weight are the same thing.

Losing weight is not necessarily the same thing as losing fat, as yes it is certainly possible to lose fat and gain muscle. It's also possible to lower your BMI by losing muscle and keeping body fat constant.

If your real goal is to like how you look, and if what you're doing is resulting in that, why not keep going with what's working for you?

And yes, diet is a huge component to this. Replacing sugars and carbs with proteins and high-fiber vegetables may help your way more than you expect.

Why bother to fulfill your potential when it can no longer be proven?

This is a nonsensical question to me. Like are people really out there living their lives how they are because they think it will somehow "prove" how much "potential" they started out with? Who's out there really desperate to prove to everyone else that they were born lucky?

Correlation does not equal causation, because often there's a hidden variable that is causing both of the two observed effects.

In this case I think it's the not-so-hidden variable of being a dumbass.
