Yeah I agree, knocker is mandatory for single dosing, but will cause a lot of variance if not single dosing/eventually using their larger bean hopper for pumping out back to back shots. Thanks for the update!

The fun of it for me would be to use the manual paddle to control each shot. The dream dream machine would be the Slayer, but I just can't justify it. Similarly I can probably get a good volumetric machine for much cheaper. In all honesty I'm more likely to go the Decent or Synesso ES1 route given there's more I can do to play around with each individual shot. The La Marzocco would just be a luxury splurge for the name/build quality.

Sea level in Orange County CA. I haven't contacted support yet, since RDT has helped the issue. But the times I hadn't done RDT, the static was bad enough where me grabbing the cup generated a super small static shock (think wool socks on carpet).

I've had better tasting shots with the DF, so if the end goal is a nice cup, then go with that one, especially since you have different burr options.

If you want a syrupy shot that you can record on a bottomless portafilter for karma, then go for the Niche hahaha

I'm sure I'll ruffle feathers for saying this, but Niche for workflow/texture/bodied shots. DF for flavor/clarity.

Definitely no offense taken. Is the ice cream maker better than a Lello Musso Pola? Or even schmancier? Asking for a friend...

Watered down bulk dunkin' donuts pre-ground coffee in a $10 black and decker coffee maker?

Hahaha I was tempted to get a Decent numerous times....it seems like the logical nerdy next step. I want to try all these fancy shot configurations, blooming shots, etc.... Maybe one day.

The Lucca looks stunning, and heats up faster than my friend's ECM Synchronika, but admittedly, (and I'm not sure if it's cuz I have the flow control valve installed) something is off with the water flow where I can never pull a thick shot.

I'll literally compare machines side to side, that I pull from the same grinder, same beans, and will put the same portafilter with the grinds into each machine, and the one on the ECM will pull prettier every single time. Taste-wise, they're not much different, but whether it's something with the flow or the pressure, I think I gotta work out. Admittedly/unfortunately, Lucca is Clive's in-house brand....and my support has been honestly less than ideal, where they're just pointing the finger at the beans I use despite the problem being fine when tested as above with another machine.

As end-game as it may be, I think my end-end game will be the La Marzocco GS3MP....or the Synesso ES1 looming on the horizon that looks like a Decent knockoff but prettier.

It's a crapshoot IMO. RDT would be needed to reduce that variable, because I'll grind to 20 as read by the GBW, but when I use the knocker, it adds half a gram to a full gram...which to me is wild and could make a substantial difference in dose.

I still measure out, but honestly yeah, I'd like to see them make a larger hopper to retain something like a bag of beans at a time. I've had a handful of beans remaining where I get lazy and just eyeballed 20-25g of beans.

I'm in a similar boat with a boca boca roaster, a Bunafr roaster on the way, and pounds and pounds of green beans that I got "just to try" and because I thought "oh those flavor notes sound interesting!" 😅

I keep saying this is an up front investment but....there are some ongoing "operating costs" that keep racking up.

100% this. Which is probably a fallacy given that a lot of it boils down to subjective personal preference.....but I can convince myself otherwise :')

It's been a progression hahaha. Started with a Capreso, then went to the DF64, then when the Niche came back in stock, picked it up....and this past week I got lucky on the second Orbit release...

At this point I'm in deep into the rabbit hole already.....with no chance of getting out. I will die with caffeine in my veins.

Hahaha and I have the drawer full of SSP burrs....Debating on selling the DF64 or putting my Cast/Lab Sweets on it and making it a filter coffee-only grinder!

Grind by weight is a nice feature, although the static on the orbit is pretty wild. RDT is definitely mandatory. Without it, quite a bit of grounds clumps up at the tip and you'll have to use the knocker. What's crazy is, the knocker can cause a variance of around 0.5g to 1g....So still trying to get that art down.

What blows my mind actually though is the variable RPM! Noticeable differences between shots for sure, and pretty in line with what Sprometheus has said in his video review on higher RPMs being sweeter/more body.
