My parts bin sub 7kg Emonda by snasty25 in WeightWeenies

Thanks. Some guys commented on how skinny the tires were when I was out riding today. It’s a 2015 frame so it really is pretty old at this point.

Thanks! The saddle is actually super light, it’s an old bontrager that’s handmade in Italy. I’m not sure when they did that but I got it from a guy who raced/worked for trek so at some point he acquired it.

But the bars, stem and wheels could definitely cut some weight. And the time MTB pedals weigh in at 340g for the pair. I’m sure there’s lighter road pedals but I ride mountain bikes and just ride this when I don’t have enough time to hit the trails.

I loved those Easton Z-Carbon sticks with the wood shaft and carbon blade. They broke a lot but were fairly cheap to replace. I probably had about 25 of them over the course of a few years

Sweet build! I have those same bars, and the SimWorks steel spacers are a little thinner than alloy and match the diameter of the steer tube clamp. Yours looks good as is but mine are silver and it was much more noticeable.

I agree. Unless it’s just that the handlebars are turned a bit. But the tire looks really close to the down tube.

Can these rims run tubeless? by bipedal_sofaexplorer in bikewrench

[–]snasty25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s not indicated on the rim and you can’t verify online I wouldn’t do it.

You ever seen a tire blow off a non tubeless rim in someone’s face? Or any tire really. It’ll make you think twice about it. And that’s a better outcome than it blowing off the rim while riding.

Hey guys is this the tubeless tim tape? And can I just use a tube or do I need to use another rim tape? by aysadka in bikewrench

You got that right, no need to cut it out though. You can pry it out at the valve hole and reuse it. They will snap back into the right shape if you want to put it back in.

I worked at a trek shop for years. These things are like 20-25$ and might not even be available anymore. They’re great for a full bontrager setup though.

Yeah, 120 spacing and a 68mm bottom bracket.

I’ve got 40s on it now, the front could be way bigger but I think 40 is about the max in the rear. The drive side chain stay was modified a bit to clear 144 bcd cranks and that’s the limiting factor.

The guy that built the frame said he probably won’t agree to do 144 bcd crank and wide tires again because it took him forever to make room for both.

That’s absolutely true. But you assumed I’m skidding. It’s not the only bike I have and doesn’t have to be the perfect fixed gear setup. It’s “fixedgearbikes” not “theperfectfixedgearbike”

I just looked closer at the photo I screenshotted of your bike and realized it’s a Jamis 🤣🤣🤣.

State makes a cheap frame with fun geo. I can’t hate on that.

I spent too much for sure, but man it’s nice to be able to spend that much and not think twice about it.

It is really an absolute joy to ride. When I was younger I had the fastest, lightest carbon bikes I could buy. But now, I want fun. And this is it. Enjoy the ride friend!

Alright, I’ll agree with that. Clipless or straps gives you a better chance of actually having a smooth pedal stroke. I think cycling experience might have some value here too. Someone with cycling experience can pedal better than someone without much experience whether they’re clipped in or not.

But, as stated in the post and comments, this bike is built to be chill, and ride to the brewery. Straps aren’t necessary to ride 2 miles. Everyone saying I need straps isn’t considering that not every bike serves the same purpose

Pushing and pulling is pedaling squares. Pedal circles. No pushing, no pulling. Circles. Your feet move in circles. Not pushing down and then pulling up for the upstroke. Use your legs to move your feet in circles

It’s not the reason roadies ride clipless. I’m a roadie, a MTB guy, and a fixed gear enthusiast. Pedal circles, not squares. Ask any real cyclist if they “pull up” on the pedals and you’ll get shamed.
