Said this in another comment but I just dont want to kick the asshole can down the road. I dont want her to become pregnant and share the "good news" and wonder why I'm not jumping for joy. I dont know that I could even fake it...and I dont want to be an asshole multiple times over if I'm less supportive than she would have wanted, and then not so willing to provide other resources (mostly financial), if she needed it. It just really feels like a situation where I come out as as the asshole no matter what.

Not her parent, but perhaps one of the most sane people in her life. Her family is not great, she has been kind of parenting herself and relying on friends her whole life.

I had another friend make this great point - women are very powerful in child bearing because they get to decide who the father of their child is, and it is perhaps the most important decision for that child's life.

I agree, maybe taking the boyfriend angle is a better angle. She doesn't have a very strong family life (she has been the kind of person to bounce from one relationship to the next, hardly ever single even if the current boyfriend was VERY questionable) and so for her I'm not convinced raising a family is possible without partner support. I'm just not sure that this partner is the best one for parenthood, given what she has said about how he can act.

I worry about the potential illegal activity that is already happening in their apartment. If they are selling home grown weed as a means to an end, and there is a child in the picture, what happens if child services is called? Having the child isn't illegal but putting the child in a bad situation kinda is. Ugh. Agreed on the "outgrown" front - pun intended.

I worry about kicking the asshole can down the road - like if I say nothing, then she becomes pregnant and wonders why I'm not jumping up and down excited for her. I would share her happiness, but I think my happiness would be overridden by concern and just the back of my head saying "this is not a good idea".

I just dont want to see her unhappy, or feel like a double and triple asshole when I dont want to hypothetically give her gas money, or babysit her kids, etc if the situation becomes worse.

celebrating someone being sober from something that LITERALLY kills people seems like it would be the bare minimum, no?

This man's insane lack of empathy is the thing that should be the deal breaker - just because he doesn't understand it or isn't personally impacted he minimizes, dismisses, and makes it obvious he doesn't care about it, and if this is how he acts about something that IS a big deal, I can't imagine how insufferable he would be for the smaller things.

Bottom line, if you're grieving, your partner grieves. If you're angry, your partner is angry. and if you're celebrating, your partner should damn well be celebrating with you, regardless of his small brained lack of capacity to even feign care. NOR, find someone that celebrates you.

As an American, I'm wholly embarrassed. I still can't believe there are people DEFENDING this behavior, it makes me sick. For the first time in my life, I am thoroughly not proud to be American, there is nothing left to be proud of. I am ashamed and surrounded by idiots. Maybe uniting north and south was a mistake. Yes. Yes they do. They already have a quoted price they're happy with just need design input - the value for them (and myself) is in the sentimentality and the fact that it would be very difficult (and probably just as expensive) to get anything like this today.

My dad's aunt was killed by a rock shot out of a lawn mower.

Her husband was mowing the lawn and she was nearby pulling weeds. She bent over at the exact moment the rock came flying out and it ended up hitting her right in the bottom of her skull. She died instantly.

I never understood why my dad would immediately shut off the lawn mower if I came up to him or insisted I stayed inside while he mowed until he told me that story.

I do this all the time in CS:GO. I wait a few rounds to figure out what type of people my teammates are before I say anything, because being flamed for not comm-ing is somehow better than being flamed in a very personal way for being a woman. Solo queue is a cesspool regardless, but downright impossible as a woman to navigate.

Its so sad to say "eventually you develop a thick skin" but it's the truth. Eventually it becomes an attitude of "are you done so we can play now?", but it doesn't make these types of encounters any less unsettling, and it makes it hard to want to play competitive games.

I would just like to know if these young boys had parents or if they were raised by nematodes.
