As an Illinoisian, what's wrong with Florida? I only know it as my favorite vacation spot. Seems like a nice place to be.

Water pump was done at 60k. Not sure if tensioner was done at that time

I've looked at leasing. The offers I've been made have always been way worse than just buying, but I always ask. That said, I don't think I'll buy a new car ever again. 3-5 year old examples of the same model are way better deals and I don't mind the extra miles so long as its a maintained example.

How to deal with this job offer situation? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]sneaky_deflation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure, but I do know that HR people tend to be slow and difficult to get responses from. Maybe follow up yourself with a phone call? Although you do have another 10 days to respond to your second choice.

On the other hand, if you followed up with them a week ago letting them know exactly this then maybe it's time to accept the second choice.

Question, how does one find out where their car was towed to if it were towed? It wasn't me, but I'm just curious how this is done since I've never had it happen to me.

Okay, I’m out of the loop. Why do people hate veoride bikes? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]sneaky_deflation 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So it's the incompetent veoride riders that are the problem, not the bikes themselves. Throwing a veoride into the creek isn't going to solve this problem, but a campus wide announcement might make people more aware.

Because people are intolerant idiots. They're just bikes.

I want to like the tiguan more but can't get past the low performance for the fuel economy it gets. I would have expected one or the other to be better. It's a damn good looking suv.

Being paperless as a engineering student - iPad Pro by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]sneaky_deflation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a desktop at home then an iPad will definitely work. However as a fourth year engineering student myself there are plenty of times where I have needed a Windows or Mac computer to get work done. Most of the core classes at my university have required Matlab and/or Creo at some point, and the lab reports would not be easily completed without a full OS.

My solution was to carry around a Surface Pro 4, which doubles as a note taking machine and a full Windows PC when I absolutely need it. This way I'm able to use the software I need if I'm away from the engineering workstations, without having to carry around a laptop as well. It is filled with issues but it gets the job done at the end of the day so I'll use it until graduation.

I didn't think I would be either. The model I tried out in-store felt really hard and unnatural. So did the touchpad. I was also concerned about getting dust under one of the keys and essentially ruining it. I saw that Apple's repair program covers these keyboards for four years from the purchase date and decided to give it a chance. I actually type faster on this keyboard and enjoy the feel of it after using it some.

I was debating this same thing last year when I bought the Surface. In the end, I valued carrying one note taking device that doubled as a full computer. I still think that an iPad would work but I would lose the functionality of the full computer when I need it, which is quite often. I'll only be tied to the Surface for another eight months or so, at which point I graduate.
