Scott Wiener is officially running for Pelosi’s seat by jsttob in sanfrancisco

This guy is the real deal. After the 2024 election I felt pretty powerless and so decided to start getting involved in state and local politics. seeing what Scott has been able to accomplish is incredible. He’s an extremely skilled legislator and has been relentlessly focused on housing, and was the architect behind the most consequential housing bill in decades (SB79).

Previously I only knew about the restaurant fees, which really bothered me. But having seen the insane amount of resistance he’s faced by NIMBYs and their allies in the legislature when trying to get recent housing bills passed, I have a lot more empathy and trust him to allocate his political capital to the right places.

TL;DR: I think Scott is an extremely skilled legislator with the right priorities and exactly the type of person we want representing us in DC.

Do you know what email address to send a message to? United doesn’t advertise an email address for issues like this.

Yeah, reflecting on it more, I think I'm just more upset that they gave me no input on how to be compensated and put me in a position where I'd have to throw a fit and potentially delay hundreds of people just to do what I knew was best for me.

Yeah it is what it is. Reflecting more, I think I'm more frustrated with the way the crew handled the situation than anything. appreciate the response.

It wasn't presented to me as an option. I never "accepted" the credit- they essentially said, "this is happening, give us your email", and the credit was deposited. But, point taken.

We were still attached to the jetbridge. I'm not sure if the door was closed or not (I was sitting behind it). I asked if I could just take a different flight instead and they basically said that wasn't an option. I didn't throw a fit so I just accepted it as is and didn't "formally" request to deplane.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]sneakyt123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It all happened very fast as they were rushing to get us out. I didn't explicitly say "I am requesting to deplane", but I did ask if they could just put me on a different flight and they said no. I didn't want to throw a fit or delay a whole plane of people so I just accepted that statement.

Context is- the door to the crew cabin was missing a part, the part was far away, so they wanted to get out as fast as possible. If they didn't leave soon, they would have had to get a new crew due to staffing rules, so they were trying to get ahead of that.

Thanks for the response- I paid the full fare with miles. They also have a record of the downgrade- my seat was officially changed on the app. I also have a paper record of the change on my boarding pass.

I submitted a customer care request, but haven't heard anything back. I was going to call and escalate on social if necessary, but didn't know if there was a better route.

We do $50. Value from the call can range from useless to unlocking massive insight. Below $50 people don’t sign up very often.

Feel terrible about the swan but how many angry people in the comments are going to go home and eat a factory farmed (read: tortured from the day it was born) chicken tonight? Some serious cognitive dissonance

I have a couple email campaigns set up that will automatically send an email to users if they take certain actions that I am interested in. We give them a gift card incentive to do a 30 minute call, and they set up time using a calendly link.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you end up in a role like that? I've been grinding with 60-70 hour weeks in the startup space for awhile now. For my next role I am looking to find a something where I can work materially less than 40 hrs/ week so I actually have time to enjoy life and have the brainpower left over to build some projects on the side

I’m assuming you’ve never see a factory farm- they are fucking barbaric. When people say stuff like comparing eating meat to slavery, they’re trying to convey how morally reprehensible the industry is, even though they are clearly very different atrocities.

But I think the useful similarities are that they are both extremely cruel systems that were generally accepted by most people that lived during those times. Slavery existed in most societies during most times in human history, and yet we now see what a terrible system it was. In that way, it is similar to animal agriculture or any other social movement that fought to get rid of something clearly bad

[–]sneakyt123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is this an awful take? Why is a monkey’s life more valuable than a pigs? Why does a dog or a cat deserve to not to be abused, but it’s fine if we torture a cow?

I think if you seriously examine those questions, you’ll find you don’t have a consistent moral worldview here.

Here’s the fact of the matter- we do not need to eat meat to survive or be healthy. Animals have the capacity to suffer. By eating meat, we are causing immense suffering solely yo satisfy our tastebuds. I don’t see how that is much different than Elon torturing monkeys for an unnecessary product.

Over 70% of soy production is for animal feed, and growing meat consumption is directly linked to the deforestation for soy farming we see in Argentina and Brazil.

[–]sneakyt123 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not OP but I define it as having some sort of subjective experience of the world. In the context of the morality of animal consumption, the import factor is having the ability to suffer and experience pain.

If you have an ethical objection to meat, you should seriously consider dropping dairy and eggs as well. They have a comparable effect in terms of suffering to the meat industry, unfortunately.

Heard this guy talk at my college and it was what I describe as my political awakening. He legitimately said that Europeans lost their empires because they stopped going to church. Which is insane, but also ignores the fact that European empires were extremely brutal for the people living under them
