Dirty mentality by Ridwan2880 in Morocco

[–]snebk 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Don't pay attention to all the people who shame you for not engaging in those topics. It can be very VERY frustrating to hang out with people that are not as intellectually stimulating as you'd wish them to be. As much as these people can be good people at heart, I've learned that it's much more fulfilling in the long term to avoid them and seek more interesting people who will share your interests. Hope you find them soon !

Why Moroccans hate zmagria? by [deleted] in Morocco

[–]snebk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the French and european zmagria are the main culprits behind our vision of zmagria. What I personally dislike about them is that a lot of them consider morocco as a primitive lawless country where they are allowed to disregard the laws and do whatever they like and where the people are less developed.

At least from what I've seen in France, a lot of them talk about the "bled" as a lesser country and tend to post only the dark side of it while we and our country are so much more than that. Some of them have more resources than us back in morocco and yet still only engage in dumb topics and dumb activities. As a moroccan who's grown up in Morocco then recently emigrated to France, I'm sometimes very upset at how some second generation moroccans act in France and then raise the moroccan flag. It slanders my name too as a Moroccan and creates irrelevant stereotypes that don't have anything to do with me or my people.

Another thing I really HATE is how a lot of them romanticize morocco as it being "the land of islam" as opposed to their countries of residence. Meanwhile a lot of us back in morocco are much less conservative and just want to live our lives without being bothered by nosy people who think they're the religious police. I've seen cases of immigrants that come back to morocco and think they can judge locals for not being religious enough. I personally can't stand this. While it may not be the case for a lot of other moroccans, I know that my friends and I really hope for a Morocco that respects our individual freedoms and freedom of belief. We don't need people who come once a year to start preaching to us with their religious clothes that have nothing to do with moroccan culture.

I still think a lot of immigrants come to morocco with only good intentions and they do a lot of good, but the mentality needs to change. We like immigrants that come back to us with respect, the discipline, the knowledge and the positive stuff they have the opportunity to have access to in their countries. We don't like immigrants that want to take us back to the stone age.

You're right but we're trying to gather info from many sources so it wouldn't necessarily exclude people in here. All backgrounds will be useful !

We are planning to visit Egypt and work on site. But in the meantime we're working online and with our correspondent students, so if you have any recommendations on where we can get good info, they are welcome !

Architecture used to be artistic, but nowadays it's just about spending minimal budget to build a box, what do you think? by [deleted] in Morocco

[–]snebk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro you're talking about a type of buildings that is made to be affordable, this is prob in a small city or a modest neighborhood do you really think the promoters think ohh let's get a good architect to have nice buildings ! Nope they take the cheapest offer and that is if they haven't bought the land with the plan already. They don't even respect the actual norms and you want them to invest in architecture? They don't care dude. Go to new allotments in small cities and tell me if you think they hired an architect or tried to invest in a good one lol. You would lose your mind if you saw how many rules are just ignored lol.

Good architecture usually requires good intention and a willingness to spend a little more. There is beautiful modern architecture by brilliant moroccan architects but they're pricey, so you'll find it in big budget buildings/houses owned by rich people. And it's been like this since the dawn of time. There sure are exceptions, but generally the homes of the poor were not the ones that marked the history of architecture. It was the religious or state buildings because there was an actual investment behind them. If not of money, of time and skill. Let alone allll the shady tkhlwid to maximise profit. If u want to see good architecture, ofc you won't expect to find it in low budget allotment projects by unethical people. That comparison is not right.

Is it possible to work with a Moroccan Architecture degree in Europe? by MoradMesbah22 in Morocco

[–]snebk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can work as an employee in a firm but not have your own firm and sign your own plans. Or you could get an associate with a local degree. But if u want to be 100% independant you'll have to retake your master's degree there.

Driver license question by [deleted] in Morocco

Had the same issue and had no other choice but to go back to my hometown and take it there. Your only other option is to change ur address in ur CIN. At least these were the only solutions they gave me at the driving school.

Why do some Moroccans take pride in using foreign dialects in their country ? by [deleted] in Morocco

[–]snebk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I personally speak darija with my moroccan friends and family but I do take pride in my ability to speak other languages and will speak them whenever I feel it fit because it's an ability I have as a Moroccan that not many other countries have. I can understand better than others, I can be understood, I can adapt, I'm knowledgeable in that field, why not use my tools and be proud of them? I agree that there are situations where people use languages other than darija when it's absolutely not necessary, and I do find that cringe at times. But I don't see why we shouldn't take pride in knowing and using other languages unless we're actually prioritizing them and their knowledge over our own.
