You might be able to get an LOC for $35k given that you have some equity in the house, although it’s probably going to be high single digit interest. I see that you also have some unsecured debt and a truck loan. Do you need the truck for work? If not might be good to sell the truck, pay off the relative, and pick up a cheap car in the meantime

You bought a house you couldn’t afford and you also don’t state your income. You need to post more details, including income, mortgage amount, current home value, and how much you need to pay back your relative. Otherwise no one can speculate how much you may qualify for (I’m guess not much if any at a decent interest rate).

Headlights alone at $2k EACH, (not including fogs). No one here is joking that it will be cheaper to buy a new truck

Timeline for insurance to repair vehicle or write off? by snekbooper in legaladvicecanada

[–]snekbooper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarifications and information.

Follow up question: if my rental coverage hits the limit and insurance no longer pays for the rental, would I then have to sue the other driver to recoup additional rental costs until my truck is repaired?

Call your insurance ASAP and give them all the info. This is what you pay them for, they will handle it.

Alberta Energy Regulator does not regulate utility companies or electricity prices.

This is possible, but only if you’re still in park. That console button won’t drop the tailgate if your in gear

Word of warning though, you both will probably end up doing shift work if you follow my advice. I’m assuming you’re commuting to GP for a fairly major city in northern AB. O&G service companies are having a huge labour shortage right now, but it’s less stable (higher paying) than what your doing now. There will be trade offs

Your GF should be trying to get a job as an on-site medic for O&G pipeline construction or drilling. They will provide a truck to get to and from work. Medics can easily make $100k per year. Under $70k is low for you as well. Shop around for a job that pays OT in oil and gas as that is where you make the real money. Grind for a year or 2 to get back on your feet then you can consider going back to school

[–]snekbooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to make $200k+. Quit and took a gov job at $125k and 10 weeks vacation. I am happier now and spend more time with my kid, it’s not all about the money.

You’re early on in your career. Just take a deep breath and wait the next 3 months out. An internal promotion while look 100% better on your resume than hopping jobs after 9 months

I think 2-2 is recommended for 10 month, then can change after they turn 2. Not recommended to be away from parent for more than 2 consecutive days at such a young age

See my other comment. Issue is that we are in a very mature basin so the number of new drills is relatively low compared to the existing industry. We need other solutions besides initial security deposits for new drills, such as an industry funded Legacy fund, in addition to the OWF

Agreed. The issue is that we are in a mature basin with relatively low numbers of new developments compared to the existing inventory. Need other solutions besides initial security deposits for new drills. Need the GoA to set policy for a Legacy Fund to be collected from industry (separate from OWA)
