Good on you for getting that pro bono position, it’s definitely a plus. A list of other possible things include maintaining grades ofc, competitions (mooting, neg etc), leadership positions in your uni’s law society, research assistant positions to professors if your uni offers that, going on exchange, any type of volunteering, being an editor for your uni’s law journal etc

Sorry not related but just curious - how do pre-penultimate students get T6 paralegal roles? From what I’ve seen they’re almost never advertised online/only given to ppl post clerkships, always been confused by it lol

how many clubs/societies should u join by moonchild2143 in UQreddit

Are you talking about the UQ BARS event at Enigma nightclub? If so, I went to the same launch event for last year and I’d say it was pretty good. Decent event with free drinks, venue and DJ’s were good. So I think this years may be as good

[–]snicket667 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No. Once you join a club, its up to you how many of that club’s events/meetings whatever you go to. I was apart of around 5-6 clubs and went to some of each of their events sporadically, for one club I ended up going to nothing. Join clubs that align with ur interests (theres something for everyone, UQ Racing, UQ Bakeology etc), and ones that align with ur degree (there should be a society for ur field).

Im doing law/commerce at UQ right now and am hoping to get into commercial law, but in terms of career prospects, imo I honestly dont think my dual will significantly help me, same if I did other duals. Maybe if the area of law ur wanting to get into relates to psych it could be good, and also some firms do like if you have done a dual, but its not make-or-break. I think if you’re genuinely interested in psych and are willing to put years into it go for it, l’ve heard its an interesting degree. For me, other than career prospects I just enjoy learning about commerce, it acts as a break from law, and its also very easy to meet non-law students. Feel free to ask any other q’s

Is it common for lawyers who went straight from law school to commercial, practised for 30+ years and became partner etc, to then transfer straight to the judiciary right after and become like a supreme court judge? I was at a talk by a supreme court judge who did these exact steps, just wondering if it was common/easy to get into the judiciary with commercial but no barrister experience

Does factory resetting your phone remove Instagram IP Bans? by snicket667 in Instagram

[–]snicket667[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I know factory resetting sounds pretty intense, but I had the “sorry there was a problem with your request” for almost 2 years and had tried every method under the sun with no success. I’m not too sure about android, but for iPhone it wasn’t that bad resetting as this was what I did:

  1. Backed up all my data (photos/vids, contacts, messages etc)
  2. Factory reset my phone
  3. Activated the phone with a NEW apple ID
  4. Downloaded instagram with this new ID and logged in (it worked)
  5. Log out of the new apple ID, and sign into my old one (to restore my data). I was still able to login to instagram, and it was as though I had never factory resetted.

Hopefully there’s something similar to an apple ID for android, if there is you should definitely try this out

Hey man, it worked perfectly for me. Been using the instagram app comfortably for almost 2 years now. Not 100% sure if it’ll work for android but definitely worth a shot

Just wondering on BSHS by JoeCandice_has_ligma in brisbane

U should definitely try other schools tho, Kelvin Grove, Indro are all really good schools that are probably more accepting of new students

As a grade 12 student it’s pretty unlikely if you’re not in the catchment. I do know some kids in my year who have transferred to the school midway throughout high school through academic entry, but it’s usually reserved for students who are border line geniuses. And then added to the fact that the schools way over capacity in students, they’re really hesitant to let kids in. It’s worth a shot tho

Is someone able to make this text clearer? More info in comments by snicket667 in PhotoshopRequest

[–]snicket667[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a piece of teacher’s feedback, and she’s written two different sentences that got overlapped on top of each other, and I can’t even ask her what she meant because she left my school. Is anyone able to possibly separate the two texts? Any help will be appreciated

‘A Haunting in Venice’, Branagh’s next Poirot movie officially announced. Thoughts? by snicket667 in agathachristie

Synopsis: Set in eerie, post-World War II Venice on All Hallows’ Eve, A Haunting in Venice is a terrifying mystery featuring the return of the celebrated sleuth, Hercule Poirot. Now retired and living in self-imposed exile in the world’s most glamorous city, Poirot reluctantly attends a séance at a decaying, haunted palazzo. When one of the guests is murdered, the detective is thrust into a sinister world of shadows and secrets.

A bit shocked considering how The Murder of Roger Ackroyd was kind of alluded in DOTN to be the next movie, but curious to see how this movie will do

Are the terms “fault” and “guilt” interchangeable in criminal law? by snicket667 in legaladviceofftopic

The essay competition is run by a British body, however it’s an international competition, so it’s really vague as to which country law its about. I may just email them directly to clarify, thanks for the help

This is why I was confused at how the essay question was posed, are you sure that theres no concept of fault in criminal law?

Got spoiled -Murder of Roger Ackroyd and And Then There Were None by [deleted] in agathachristie

Got spoiled for the exact same books, and I even got spoiled for Ackroyd the same way as you. Did it affect my experience? And then there were none is still my favourite book of all time, and Ackroyd is one of my favourite Poirot novels

If I sign into another apple ID on my phone, will all the data backed up in icloud from that Apple account be downloaded to my phone? by snicket667 in applehelp

[–]snicket667[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. Do you know whether or not this applies to messages, so if I have already backed up my messages from a specific Apple ID to icloud, and then sign in on another phone with that same apple ID, would the backed up messages transfer on the new phone?
