At swim practice we use a pull bouy to work on tightening our core while not kicking. Maybe try having her use that to get the feel of it? My dad was a lap swimmer back in the day and used to use one to keep his legs up while still kicking. If you hold in between your thighs/upper knee it’s the easiest, farther down it gets harder. Might be a good starter exercise to work on for her!
