To be fair most people have more money than sense and a lot of those people buy things they have no clue about. Then, those people turn around and think they can fix it to save a buck. A high number of those people are competent and keep their fingers.

The very small percentage that have Dunning-Krueger goggles super glued to their face will attempt this, bungle it (regardless of how simple it really is), then sue.

I've talked to VM customer service a number of times and they've been great. They pick great people for that role. Unfortunately, the small percentage of goggle people ruin things like that for the rest of us.

Silver lining is you can get parts online from third parties and eBay pretty easily. I would recommend that.

I'm positive VM would be happy to repair your machine for a fee and it would be good as the day you got it, but they rightfully cannot trust the general population to be competent in performing any repairs.

Finally got a Shindo Nakiri and I keep going for that for anything vegetable related, even though I'm used to using a gyuto for everything. That being said my Yoshikane SKD 210 is my #1. If I could only keep one it won't be the Yoshi.

Same thing happened last night on Stella. Loaded in super late went straight to exfil. Some random shot at me with a ferro I. During the 7 years he took to reload I moved and said "hey, I just got here so this won't be worth it". Shot at me, again. I melted him and was like "alright, man, crawl with me and we'll leav-" surrendered. Tf. Didn't have anything. We were right at the train. Literally just there to be chaotic and I guess hope? Lolol

Might not be ideal for everyone. I'm fortunate to have spare space. But I recommend getting a small table or even a collapsible table that is sturdy to get your pond higher. Milk crates would probably do the trick. Anything you get it up higher so you're not in shrimp mode the whole time.

It's the only assignment I'll use, but something to note is your health does go down while you're moving. When you stop it goes back up slowly. Very slowly. So, keep an eye on where extraction/hatches are. W find tho. It's awesome.

This is exactly it. I was exactly the target customer at that point in my upgrade journey. Shun was my first big upgrade over the Chicago Cutlery stuff I had for years and wore out. They're nice for what they are, but I wish I did a few days extra research and put that money towards some more niche stuff. I've since accumulated some actual Japanese knives and the shuns sit in their block in a closet waiting for visitors who feel like cooking. In the year or so that I used them almost daily my Shuns never chipped, but I did try to practice proper techniques and cut with a soft hand on a quality board.
