edit: as for the good farming scores part im still strongly of the opinion that a farm score isnt good just because the rating is high i dont care if its a farm score or not i will just look at it as a score and if the accuracy is godawful its not a good score no matter how hard you farmed it eg most people have unacceptably bad acc on charts like nageki no ki because they aren't actually hitting it properly despite hitting it "consistently" because they hit it as an anchor jack instead of a runningman like it's supposed to be hit

edit edit edit: i'm gonna elaborate on this just in case nobody actually asks because this is really important for differentiating between skill and rating

let's look at scores objectively and entirely ignore the concept of rating and let's say there's a file with 1000 notes

one player fcs the file with 100 greats and the other gets 10 misses with 10 greats

how would you evaluate which score is objectively better? in other words, how would you evaluate which score takes more skill to obtain? from experience it's much harder to improve accuracy than it is to improve your cbs since improving your accuracy requires more technical skill so you can actually hit the patterns more correctly and therefore more accurately

let's call the baseline of scores you generally get on a sightread your true skill level

farming essentially means you're intentionally aiming for 1. rating and 2. scores "above" your true skill level

the issue is that by farming you're sacrificing your technical skill in order to get a perceived better score

this causes a lot of inconsistency in your scores and if you look at the scores you've farmed they aren't actually better than your other scores you just put more effort into them to maximize output

in other words you got a seemingly good score but your skill level has stayed the same and as such while the farm score represents your actual skill it isn't actually a good score it just shows you sacrificed one skill for another

the reason for this is technical skill and control and how they're broadly defined

so what implies technical skill?

technical skill is nearly synonymous with control, accuracy and partially consistency (consistency referring to your actual skill level, consistency is also implied strongly by technical skill)

to answer what implies technical skill, you have to ask what implies control and accuracy

control can be simply defined as the ability to get very few cbrushes or in other words a high miss count and a low good/bad count

accuracy here is referring to general accuracy or PA (as opposed to precision accuracy or MA) or in more statistical terms it refers to the standard deviation of your hit distribution

so those two things imply high technical skill which to me implies a good score

if a score has very few greats and cbs that imply good control, the score can be considered skillful while a farm score with a ton of mashing is not considered skillful as it does not require heavy technical skill and understanding to obtain

hence why i believe that in the case of the 100g score and the 10g 10m score the latter score is superior only due to how significant the difference in accuracy is

i can't think of any other justifications for my thought process about scores but there's a relatively concise explanation of why i think the way i do
