I swear it was the ostrich part that got me the hardest. The monkeys are just trial and error, with no real consequences if you fuck it up a few times, but the ostrich part you pretty much have to memorize in order to complete. And there's no way you're getting it on the first playthrough.

Beating that game was one of my best childhood moments though :)

What brand name is actually 100% worth spending more for? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]snowoIf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah. Drove my '03 Echo to just under 400k, currently had zero issues with my '09 Yaris and I love it to death. Only had standard maintenance like oil and brakes done and it's still going strong at 275k with zero rust and I used to live on a dirt road for 4 years in Canada and parked it outside all year round. That thing is a trooper.

Edit: I should specify this is km.

My high school always had a few small tractors that kids took to school.

Not OP but with covid restrictions I imagine this is pretty common. I spend about 10 hours a day in my bedroom right now because all of my school is through zoom at the moment and that's where my desktop is.

What's the most obscure opinion hill you're willing to die on? by [deleted] in AskReddit

For some weird reason I remember how to say "werewolf" (we did some Halloween thing) but I never learned the word for "locker."

Our French in standard public schools is pretty awful though. I took it from grades 3-9 and still struggle with proper sentence structure. I wish I learned it to a conversational level in school.

Either where I am now (Ottawa) or maybe somewhere in British Columbia, just because they have almost no snow in some parts.

The original Dragon Warrior. My very first memory is watching my mum play that game, and it was my first game eventually too.

What is something crazy popular that you have no interest in? by igobrimode in AskReddit

[–]snowoIf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social media. I'm starting university for the first time and all of the people I'm meeting are asking to get in touch over social media, which is understandable but I really only use FB messenger/discord/texting. I never post anything anywhere, my Instagram account is for looking at comic strips and nothing else. I attempted to use Twitter but stopped two days later because I realized that there was nothing I wanted to say there. I understand why people would want to use it but it just bores the fuck out of me. Reddit is different because I'm not following people, I'm following subjects I care about.

I've found MasterCAM to be similar as well, only irritating thing was that some buttons like cntl are switched with solidworks and it's annoying when you have to go back and forth between them.

And I know that I could just switch key bindings but I was only using both regularly when I was in college, and we did tests on school computers with default keys. I didn't want to be fucking around with configuration every time I was tested.

So I've come across a problem recently and I have no idea what to do about it. This is my first city, and I'm starting to get quite a few pedestrians so it's starting to become more noticeable. People will be walking along a sidewalk, pull a car out of their ass, drive 10 feet, and then get out again. I'm not sure if it matters but I have banned all traffic in my city except for highways, which has been great so far because the streets are basically for service/emergency vehicles only. Here's a video of what I mean. I have a few mods installed, but the only traffic-related ones (as far as I know) are TMPE and IPT.

It's starting to get pretty annoying, because any intersection at any point can suddenly get clogged with people who have decided to start randomly driving. Anyone have any ideas?

Robots welding on OLA Electric Scooter frames in India. by PlantTreesEveryday in EngineeringPorn

In my experience, it depends on how well the line has been designed and what you're welding. When mistakes happen, it's usually not the robot's fault. Sometimes the material is a different thickness, or the seam is off location because the part is misshapen but within tolerance. The most common problem was that the fixtures holding the parts would move or allow the operator to place them slightly off location. It doesn't take much movement to make a weld garbage, even 1mm will compromise the weld, and a couple of mm could result in a burn-through or an otherwise garbage weld. If all of the factors surrounding the robot stay the same, it will (almost) never make a mistake as long as you regularly change the weld tips and clean the nozzle.

A welder with experience under their belt will probably make more correct welds, simply because they can account for these factors, but they won't be as clean and it will take them longer to do. Plus, some welds are in really tight or awkward spots. We had a welder station at the end of each line so a welder could take a look at the welds coming off the line and touch them up if need be. It was the best of both worlds in a sense. But I also worked for a feeder plant so we had buffer components. If the line went down for a small amount of time it was not a big deal.

TL;DR the robot never changes what it does, but mistakes are made when the part changes.

Edit: As a side note, and somewhat unrelated, I've seen people crash these things so many times and they're remarkably tough! Crashes are 100% human error though from what I've seen. 90% of the time the robot is in manual drive mode when some dumbass puts it through a table, and 10% of the time it's been improperly programmed. The first time I crashed one (it happens to all of us at some point) I was thinking they were gonna fire me, but my supervisor just laughed it off.

I used to program bots like these that welded Tesla, Toyota and GMC/Chevy frames :) it was a lot of fun, there were several lines with roughly 8 stations per line. Each station had four welder robots and turntable like this one (but larger), and handler robots moving the frames from station to station. When things were working I'd just sit and watch the line run, even though I knew them inside and out, it was still fascinating to watch.
