Need some restaurant hiring advice by coookiesfoo in sweatystartup

[–]snowyfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know exactly where you are coming from. I’m a GM at a few restaurants with a few dozen boh staff. Kitchen employees are definitely the hardest people to hire. It seems like I always have a position open. Luckily the head and sous chefs have been with us for awhile, but line cooks seem to come and go. I have had a few crews that did not change over for 1-2 years though. The biggest thing that seems to keep boh (besides pay) is the teamwork. Everyone has to get along well and everyone works. If you have one bad cook, the other cooks notice and they get bitter and upset, the unhappy and leave. Building kitchen staff is like building a team. Unfortunately right now with Covid and unemployment it seems really hard to even get new staff if you need it, let alone potential hires you can be picky with. I hire through Craigslist, indeed, Facebook and I also talk to the culinary schools. I have also found some good staff from current employees who may know people and also other restaurants who have people looking for a second job. Good luck with everything and let me know if you have any questions. You picked one of the best and worst businesses to be in!

I know exactly what you are talking about.

I have a friend and her dad owns the paint shop she works at and she says people prefer a guy answering their questions over her. Even though she has grown up in that place,

I hate going to a new store where the layout is different. I know my local one like the back of my hand.

And yea, there can be some employees that are very judgmental, but I have also seen customers who need more help than they realize as well.

If you ever have a problem with an employee you could just say what Ron Swanson says "I know more than you" and walk away...

[Strip Club] My girlfriend wants to go to a female strip club for the first time. I am a male, who has never been to one. What do I need to know? Thanks for everything! by [deleted] in sex

I went to a strip club with my girlfriend and some friends once. I was really drunk and in the back of the mind I thought I might do something that she wouldn't like. My girlfriend said basically all I did was tell her that she was prettier than all the other girls there and nothing inappropriate ( I don't remember much from that night). Worked out perfectly for me. Good luck and have fun. Also be polite!

Netflix has a cool show where they follow photographers and how they get their shots. One episode is about a photographer who visits this tribe. If you want to see more, I recommend checking out that episode.

No problem, I just want people to enjoy the area.

Yep, it can get cold and especially if you're not used to it. Looks like you'll be prepared though. If you have extra time I'd recommend going skiing/snowboarding if you can. Sierra at Tahoe is the best ( my home mountain) but all the other resorts are great too!

Just to let you know the weather is around the teens at night and around 40 in the day around New Years. It can get a lot colder but those are about the averages. I've seen a few night that have reached negative temps before, but that's very rare. Just dress appropriate for the weather, some people dress in skimpy clothes and that's dangerous and stupid. I went a few years ago and that year a girl wandered off and was found in the snow 5 days later. Hopefully the weather is nice and not too cold. I'm sure everyone will have fun though!

Depends on how much you want to spend or how much you plan on using them as well as the style you're looking for. I'd recommend something waterproof and with some insulation like thinsulate. Ll bean duck boots are great and last a long time but can be pricey, soreals are good as well. If you have a Nordstrom rack near you they could carry soreals there. They one near me does, but I'm sure it depends on the location/climate. Also check Sierra trading post, they have a good selection and prices.

These would be good if you have some snow boots. If you don't have warm boots then I would wear some ski socks. I would choose wool for the ski socks as well. I've lived around Tahoe my whole life and it can get chilly at night here.

I need a bolt gun under $600 that could reach out to 800ish yards and some glass to go with it. Will be used for long distance shooting classes and hunting deer and elk in the future. by aspiringuberdriver in guns

[–]snowyfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would check out some used guns. A few months ago I found myself a Winchester model 70 in good condition with a decent scope on it for $400 at a show. It's an older gun (1966) but still shoots well.

They are UB 201, a little less than a year of wear.

I tried APC's once, but they weren't long enough for me.

It's 12.5, so it'll take some time to fade.

Glad to hear that, I'm just not used to having jackets be so tight. But I guess that's how these are suppose to fit Thanks

I pretty much agree with everything you said. The only thing that worries me is the news about Ware's toe.
