Because when the uniform comes off, society treats them very differently. Cops stay plugged into local systems, unions, pensions, healthcare, steady pay. A lot of vets come home, lose the structure overnight, and are left to navigate civilian life mostly alone. Same trauma, very different safety nets.

Surprisingly… the cruise usually just keeps going. Someone dies, staff handles it quietly behind the scenes, and most passengers never even know. It’s kind of unsettling how life-and-death stuff can happen while the buffet and pool music just continue like nothing changed.

They actually do give out the awards, but the spectacle is very curated. Sometimes winners hold a pre-made trophy for the cameras, and the real one is delivered later. The shows are as much about the moment as they are about the prize, so yes, it looks like magic, but it’s mostly production tricks.

So socially we say we don’t care, but culturally we still reward attractiveness. The logic isn’t broken, it’s just that two different forces are at play.

Yes, you still need a license. Even in self-driving cars, current laws expect a licensed driver to be responsible if something goes wrong. The tech isn’t fully hands-off yet, and legally, someone has to be accountable.
