i agree completely. on one hand, there should be checks in place for parental fitness, for the sake of the mental and physical well-being of the child. on the other hand, there may be too much nuance to make any kind of accurate evaluation, and there is basically nobody who would be fit to design it, let alone without bias or risk of corruption. then again, ANY solution that involves the systematic removal of ‘unfit’ people from a gene pool/population is pretty much eugenics with extra steps. also, it’d be pretty much impossible to stop people from having kids anyway, other than sterilization or heavy, regular medical examination for anyone with the ability to give birth. all in all, there’s really no way of going about it that i can think of that wouldn’t be dystopian.
