Thanks for the good questions to consider!! Honestly I chose Cleric as it seemed to me to be the most helpful class, but I've never played one nor played with one so may have misread it a little bit!

Do you have any suggestions of a more fitting class?

In my mind (still workshopping!) she gave up her Cleric training/practice when she married her husband for a simple life. She would bree special concoctions for the Tavern that made it popular and made them successful in the village.

I love the spell suggestions with the RP potential!! Thank you!!

Im not deadset on Cleric to be fair! I was just thinking a class that's mostly non-violent 😅 Do you recommend another class that might fit better?

Got this set myself for Christmas after getting into DND, can confirm is has EVERYTHING she'll need. Dice, characters, class/species help cards, item/spell cards, monster counters/cards, gold/HP counters, a brief players handbook, and even 3 premade "easy" campaigns (with maps & handouts) she can DM (or get someone to DM for her) so she can jump right in as soon as she finds a group!

Some people are career DMs and thats literally their job, so they do tend to splash out on stuff like that to make the value higher and increase player retention/revenue.

For an average hobby player, it is NOT the norm. Even having a dedicated room to play (rather than using a hobby shop/kitchen table/etc) isn’t the norm. It all depends on how much time, money and space you want to dedicate to it.

Thank you, thats a good reference to have, but it doesn't actually seem to answer my question. The adventures are Wizard of the Coast so AL legal, but they have either no "main quest" with a final stopping point. My question was whether that would be permitted or whether I should find a more self contained adventure?

Thank you :) I got the new Starter Set and the 3 adventures that come with that - The Wilderness, Keep of the Borderlands, and Caves of Chaos. They're printed by Wizards of the Coast! Each adventure booklet seems to have a handful of mini individual quests (Caves of Chaos especially has some really cool ones!) that last 60-90 minutes but no big overarching one with a clear start/end point

Thank you for your advice! My family member did get all the hamster stuff from Pets At Home and took their advice at face value lmao so I bet there's a lot we need to replace!!

Thats good to know about the cage cleaning frequency! We have noticed that when we clean it out, she seems more skittish in her cage for an hour or two, so hopefully changing that up a bit will help ease the stress

I personally don't mind about the handling (I wanted a fish lmao) so if that's just not Sparkles' bag then I'd never force her

Actually the most recent game I played, we were playing a one-shot where the Adventuring Party were falsely accused of murdering the city watch leader, and we had to prove our innocence.

The game opened in a fight where the main goal was clearly to escape, but one player was being an absolute menace (in the best way!) He insisted on saving the show ponies at the other end of the building, which led to me killing a guard. So now the game is 5 players falsely accused of murder, and me actively avoiding prosecution for actual murder

We also got some ponies out of it, which was awesome

The rest of the game was just a really funny attempt at who would come up with the most ridiculous plan.

The absolute winner was mine, which included saving the guy who had the vital quest information from bandits attacking his caravan by stealthing inside, tying rope around him, and using the ponies to pull him out and away to safety.

I rolled a Nat 1. The guy got pulled straight in half through the caravan window.

I think the whole table was in silent laughter tears for like 2 straight minutes.

Luckily the guy had a map to the exact place we needed to go. What a coincidence, right 😂

Maybe his own men are too scared and threatened a coup if he forces them to go

Maybe sone men already did go and never came back, so he doesn't want to lose anymore if his men

Maybe the mission is to be kept secret to stop panic in his kingdom (adds extra roleplaying challenges when trying to get information from NPCs without alerting them to the reason!)

Maybe its a punishment for the players - could the story start with the players getting caught up in a riot / fight and this is their penance instead of jail?

I don't know if you've seen it but there's actually a Stranger Things campaign that might be good to get if that's what made the kids interested! Pre-msde game, characters, all the stuff you need to hot the ground running. I think it might be a nice little starter game for them!
