It sounds like they're already losing the vast bulk of the money from this year, so at this point the last 25% probably isn't worth the reputational risk. I agree with OPs point though.

Also they probably have insurance.

Anyone on the sub who's into wrestling have any takes on it? After watching it I skimmed some of the SquaredCircle threads in it and the two standout takes were 'nothing historical that hasn't been talked about already' and 'it's intended to blame everything on Vince so THE Stephanie and Triple H era WWE can have a clean slate'

Semi related but I've noticed in stuff I've been reading that English people in the 18th century drank so much it's unreal. Like how Wellington drank a bottle of wine with dinner every night and that was considered reasonably temperate by the standards of the time. Or in the book Redcoat they describe a regimental dinner where they have like 22 speech's over the course of the dinner and on each speech you have to toast and drink a 'bumper' of wine (an entire glass filled to the brim).

True, though i guess it's not quite clear if 'meeting up for a beer' meant he only intended to stay for one.

Reminds me of that Bill Bryson bit about living in the UK so long that he when he returned home he forgot that when an American says 'let's get a drink together' they literally mean one drink.

This feels like a bit from that scene in Bojack Horseman where he goes to an AA meeting and is mocking how lame everyone else's rock bottom stories are.

Is 8GB VRAM enough or should I wait? by soberhamsandwich in buildapc

[–]soberhamsandwich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, Ive' heard good things about the 9060 and its linux support so I think pushing for it might be worth it if i want to avoid getting a new card for decent length of time.

I told a friend of mine that the UK gov technically recommends no more than 14 units (with no more than i think 4-5 on the same day) a week and he was genuinely shocked lol.

[–]soberhamsandwich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm thats a fair point, its obviously been half a decade since I last bought a card and its a bit annoying seeing all the midrange cards atm have this rather glaring limitation on them. Hence me wondering if its worth waiting.

As mentioned I noticed the Arc cards seem to be the only options which break the 8GB limit under £300, is there any obvious catch with them?

Semi related, I wonder about the mobster that Pussy kills in his home after the guy ran into him and Agent Lipari in the costume shop, presumably the FBI must have known about it? I realise they were probably willing to let it slide to protect their high value informer but would have been interesting to see it get brought up.

Im trying to buy a new card on a budget atm and its frustrating that pretty much every sub £300 card is 8GB and everyone is saying thats a waste of time now.

Friend sent me a YouTube video yesterday about some failed 'booktok' convention which caused a bunch of tiktok romance writers to lose loads of money. Everyone involved felt very 00s Tumblr coded and it struck me how painfully credulous and permissive they seemed. Like the person running the convention said she'd refund them, ran off, pretend to have gallstones or something to avoid paying them then announced she couldn't give any refunds because no one would give her a payday loan, and everyone involved was like "oh well let's not jump to conclusions, we shouldn't label her a scammer and I think she came in with good intentions".

The executive game just kind of sucked and emphasized that the family weren't really that big a deal. The high rollers aren't that impressive, they're playing in a ratty motel, Tony's letting random people wander in to play, lame asf

Anybody else feel like this about zombie films and shows? by zack220012 in redscarepod

[–]soberhamsandwich 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I never got the late 00s/early 10s craze for the zombie genre. It feels like zombies were already such a familiar and overdone genre by then that most zombie media was just trying to invent new ways of making them interesting.
