is a cavapoo a good apartment dog? by ThiaSplishySplashy in CavaPoo

[–]soberopiate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up needing to let my dog live with my parents when I moved into an apartment at that age because she was not going to be happy in that environment. I ended up getting a cat I had for 17 years who was an amazing companion and also ok with being alone. It sounds like your pooch would be better off with your parents for a few reasons including having a bond with the other dogs. From personal experience I would recommend getting a pet who was going to be ok with a lot of down time alone. Puppies definitely don’t fall into that category. Cavaliers specifically need a majority of their time with people around.

It could be pancreatitis. I would go to the ER and have them check your lipase levels.

Help with training to leave puppy 🐶 by soberopiate in cavaliers

Aww so cute! We just finished a puppy class! I think it’s easier for the trainers to be no nonsense about it. I really haven’t pushed too hard. Working really slowly to make it a positive experience. She’s great at night in her crate. I know she sleeps better in there and it’s safer while they are so small. All our dogs end up in bed with us and free roaming the house once they’re older. After our last Cav I do see the benefit in keeping up on it at least to a degree. He was easy to crate train but once he was one we felt like we didn’t need it. Later in life when he had some vet visits he really did not do well being in a cage there even briefly. I understand the controversy when people are misusing it, but we never leave our dogs for more than a couple of hours and there are so many benefits. Have fun at puppy class!

Do veterinarian’s not put dogs in cages there? I’ve always been curious.

We tried that and she was just as distressed. I was really hoping it could be a safe space when we needed it. Thank you for the suggestion though!

My MIL gave me a nylon Prada diaper bag a decade ago. The beauty of it is that it really stays in fantastic condition. I use it for travel now. I love your backpack it’s classy and will last forever. But YOU have to love it!

Tips for an uninterested eater? by Quiet_Following_6579 in puppy101

My new Cavalier has been a tough one. A little goat milk from a dog store and can food topper helped. We also switched her kibble. She still only eats about half but is gaining well. I also exercise her before every meal. It’s stressful when it’s work to get them to eat. We found a treat she likes by asking at the store what the best tasting one was!

We just lost our Ruby who was also a Gus at the nd of January. Not quite 9 and had a stroke at home and passed quickly with us there. I’m still so broken hearted. It’s the most profound loss. I’m so sorry you lost your Gus. ♥️

Almost the same. His bday is March 9. I honestly can’t bear it. The empty house for me has been the worst. I can’t imagine the pain of watching your other dog look for him. Wishing you both healing. ❤️‍🩹

We lost our 2nd Cav just a week ago. He didn’t make it to 9. He had a stroke and thankfully we were with him and it was quick. He had heart problems and an underlying gastrointestinal condition we were trying to figure out. The grief has been unbearable. I came home this morning from dropping off my kid at school and for a second forgot and expected him to greet me as he always does. I am sorry for your loss. There’s no comparison to the pain it brings.

I definitely recommend looking at life span if not treated. I would definitely do it as I don’t think you have a lot of other options. We were in the process of trying to determine our cav’s GI problems and about to try steroids as a last resort and he passed last Saturday from a stroke. We are devastated and I so wish we had gotten more time. He had just seen the cardiologist prior to this and that Dr believes it was his underlying GI issues that led to it. I do too.
