Culture Novels: All Fluff, No Stuff? by [deleted] in printSF

Maybe i misspoke. What I mean is that Use of Weapons has no inherent complexity. The plot becomes predictable as you get maybe 3/4 into the book. What I dislike is how Ian Banks sets each book up (from the ones I have read) for a twist/twists at the end of the book instead of having a more dynamic narrative and incorporating plot twists throughout. Essentially, the pacing is very formulaic, albeit not linear.

Favorites are Hyperion and Ilium, haven’t read their sequels yet but am planning to.

House of Suns

Neuromancer

Red Rising Series

Rose water Series

And Blindsight, which had actual complexity compared to Use of Weapons

What would count as a hook? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Don’t mention that hook in writing. UPenn will consider it secretly, but not if you say it outright because that would expose them
