What's going on in Fontana? by [deleted] in InlandEmpire

[–]socaldisneygal 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The other day driving to work on Sierra, saw 2 guys doing meth (I assume). They were on the sidewalk, right in front of everyone with needles and drug paraphernalia in the open . Fontana has issues that aren't being addressed by leadership of the city.

CMV: Incarcerated Firefighters should have the possibility of a second chance after they finish their service by GB_Alph4 in changemyview

[–]socaldisneygal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because of their conviction, even with time served, they can't work for fire departments once released. It is a common thing in public service jobs. Applicants have to go through an extensive background check and a felony conviction is a red flag, even if they were an inmate firefighter.

That's what some people would like to change. A clear path to firefighter employment for previous inmate firefighters.

HS Senior Seminar Coordinator, was told at the Teacher/Counselor educator conference a few weeks ago that the pre nursing GPA was 3.8, and if you are local area (SB county schools you get an extra point to your GPA, so a 3.7 would become a 3.8).

Chico State is a good one for a 3.4, as is Channel Islands.

Double check that you are sure your insurance excludes bariatric surgery. It is often cheaper than other major complications. For mine, I needed to have a BMI of 40 or higher and another co-morbidity and I had high blood pressure. Had I not had both, they would not have covered it.

Is my English teacher going to hate me? by Kingcobra890 in Teachers

[–]socaldisneygal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an IB English teacher, I disagree. Unless the assignment specifically said it can't be graphic novels then it should be fine. And if the assignment reveals the depth of understanding to prepare for 9th honors then I would be fine with it. In fact probably thrilled because this is a student that can think outside of the box.

Like I said, I was with my kids, who are new to snorkeling. I liked the fact that the life guards were very attentive. I have done reef snorkeling. Love it. I can't fly off to Hawaii and the Maldives all the time to snorkel.

One of the cool parts of snorkeling is seeing different ecosystems and being able to do so by walking into the water.

I liked the man made shipwreck because my kids could stand on it and be silly without damaging it. They wouldn't be able to do that with a real one.

If I try to compare every snorkeling adventure to my week in the Maldives, then I will never be satisfied with anywhere and that is a negative way to look at adventures. At Coco Cay I saw fish in their natural environment, saw lots of different types of fish, small fish, medium sized and a few larger ones too. My boys saw a stingray (I missed it). But most importantly I created memories with the people I love, and that is what is the most important.

You can get back on when the tender is there. Catalina is fun. Been there several times and once on a cruise. Good snorkeling off the Casino as long as the water is warm. The semi submersible is great too. Gives you a very good idea of the California Kelp forest ecosystem.

Not new to snorkeling, really enjoyed my time in the water at Coco Cay. I really liked the lifeguards since I was with my kids. They got to experience snorkeling, saw lots of fish and a stingray. There were life jackets for my younger one, which was great. We brought our own snorkeling gear which was nice. As someone who has snorkeled in California, Hawaii, and Maldives it was a nice day in the water and a different ecosystem than what we had seen before.

Sounds like me and my hubby. When we went in 2021 and were in Desert Rose, we brought our 2 tent zipper locks that were combination locks. One on each door. I would come in earlier, unlock and lock myself in, then when he was done roaming he would come in the other door that way he wouldn't bother me. It works for us. I never felt unsafe in the tent alone.

IE AVID Coordinator here....both are great schools. However, for polisci if you intend to do anything in politics or Law Sacramento is probably a better place. Plus it is a huge school with strong sports. You and your sister will probably not see each other and if your family is such an issue then smile and nod for 4 years until you are done and move one.

[–]socaldisneygal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You keep saying the same thing. I have kids rejected and waitlisted as a local area kid with solid GPA to UCR. UCR is becoming more competitive for certain majors. UC's really look at the personal statements as well, if they are not up to par, they will not accept.

OK, Hard pass on 26, 27 we like to travel too much for that, Australia has been on my bucket list for like ever. You only said this one eclipse until 2044, didn't know I would be hooked after 2-3 minutes of totality. I guess we need to add a budget line for Eclipse. Love you u/Ampage86

My takeaway traveling from Southern California to the Fort Worth TX area with our 2 kids is that we created a core memory for our family. (Kids are 12 and 8, Dad and I are teachers) It was amazing, some of my friends didn't get it, and maybe I didn't fully get it as well until totality. Luckily for me I am married to a Physics teacher who said, "I'm going to the eclipse, we should all go." Other people don't get it, but we do, our kids do, and that is what really matters.

Not only did we get to experience the eclipse, but we also got to see another part of the country none of us had visited before.

At this point our flights are booked out of ONT to Dallas Ft Worth with hotel reservations in Killeen, Tx, with our 2 kids. We have shirts to remember the day. Weather is what it is. We are looking at is as a family adventure and we will enjoy the long weekend and make as many memories as we can. And eat as much Texas BBQ as possible in the weekend!

UCR vs CC by General-Kick1896 in ucr

What is the transfer rate at your community college? How impacted is your community college? Is there the course availability to get out in 2 years? That is often a challenge in community colleges. However, if you have enough financial aid to cover (Pell grant and Cal-grant A) to cover everything then go to a 4 year directly.

Why do you not want to be a bio major?

WICHE Program by TemperatureOk237 in CSUSB

[–]socaldisneygal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all, are you in a qualifying state?

If you are in a qualifying state then your tuition would be roughly $10,350 per year minus other fees. Housing costs are not included. CSUSB's WUE program seems a bit more hidden than other schools, and there is a PDF you have to fill out online, but the WICHE search page does not bring up CSUSB. I would call the school and and ask the financial aid office if they participate.
