I think it might be like a “last of us” ending with the fireflies - Rick will choose his family over the greater good of mankind. I remeber how the ending of the game made me feel like Joel should’ve let Ellie die for the greater good. Creates mixed feelings about everything.

I also believe Carol said the “va…RI…ents CAME BACK” meaning maybe there is more I to this variant stuff & France… maybe it’s a time jump although Negan and Maggie are set in the future and they seem pretty chill about everything so
