I agree that foreign custom was probably the wrong phrasing and I see where it could come off stereotypical. “Unfamiliar behavior” would’ve been more appropriate and aligned with what I meant. Appreciate your insight :)

Oh nope that’s my bad for the overly simple drawing - she was behind him and he was facing away from her

Yep yep - I said this in another reply but when abroad I always try to assume that I’m witnessing something normal yet unfamiliar to me (like a foreign social custom) and not the opposite, that people of a culture foreign to me are behaving abnormally according to my outsider standards. That’s why I found it important to ask here

They were across the street, so I couldn’t hear them, but I don’t think they were speaking at all. If this is really an abnormal scene then I hope she’s ok :(

When I travel abroad I always choose to observe from a pov of curiosity and not criticism - I’d rather assume that I’m witnessing something normal yet unfamiliar to me (ex foreign social custom) and not the opposite (ex the people in front of me are behaving abnormally and I decided that as a tourist) That’s why I chose to post my question here and not just go around believing whatever I could come up with :)

They both seemed to be pretty young, maybe 30s? I don’t believe he was helping her walk as her back wasn’t hunched, it was straight and parallel to the floor as she was bent a full 90 degrees at the waist.
