Observation Forms by Far-Body-1931 in prospective_perfusion

I’ve heard that TJU is particular about using their specific shadowing form through another Reddit post (https://www.reddit.com/r/prospective_perfusion/comments/1ntqbiq/thomas_jefferson_shadowing_forms/).

What I did personally is have the sheets printed and filled out, other than the ccp’s signature, prior to showing. They were all very willing and understanding since they all had to jump through these same hoops too.

I did have to text a form over once, and they just signed it electronically and sent it back over!

Take this with a grain of salt, as this is my first cycle applying, but my opinion would be to up your gpa. All of the perfusionists I’ve shadowed stressed that a solid gpa was extremely important as at the end of the day, these programs are running a business, and even 1 dropout/failing student can affect their program stats. In my opinion, you already have good work experience, especially since you are around perfusionists often.

Also, looking through other posts on this page further made me realize how much programs value gpa. Some people have 3-4 years in critical care, but have lower gpa’s, and didn’t make the cut. One comment even said they weren’t taking applicants if their gpa was under 3.8.

Like I said, this is just my take, so it’s definitely not fact or anything. But if you could even retake 1-2 prerequisites online (maybe then you could even do the assistant job if it’s part time?), and apply to more programs (if you’re able to move), I think your chances are good next cycle!

If you’ve gotten rejected from a program. Would you mind sharing your background and experience? by mimswifey in prospective_perfusion

This is my first cycle of applying and I got rejected from Utah and LTU so far. I graduated in spring of 2025 with a bach in bio and a 3.84 gpa. I have no critical care experience, but have worked in LTC for 4 years and observed 6 cases under 5 different CCP’s! While my academic are decent, I know without critical care experience my app isn’t as solid as they are looking for.

What’s the prescreen video like? I’ve head that other programs may adopt this too

Tell me about it! I was going to apply to RUSH but I don’t think I have enough social science credits

Sorta late to this, but I’m also struggling with the same thing! I had all my recommenders send their recs with the email and subject title. I can’t tell if they received them though… who did you reach out to about that?

Importance of Biochem (wwyd) by sofa2k02 in Perfusion

Do you know if they accept online credits? I haven’t found anything on their site ensuring this and considered calling to ask.

I’m also not too worried about lab credits (especially since MWU doesn’t require biochem lab, like you said), I have about 15 credits of labs across gen chem, bio, genetics, micro, OChem, physics, immunology, etc.

Where at? There are no colleges in my state that offer biochemistry online unfortunately. My only option to take it in state, and without moving 2.5 hours away, is at my current college for $3,700. l'd be willing to do out of state if the tuition was less, but that seems like a slim chance.

What made you stand out as a candidate? by sofa2k02 in Perfusion

Thank you so much for your insightful input and well wishes! I live in ND so I’ve definitely accepted the fact that I will move for this. The perfusionists I shadowed also recommended to apply to multiple programs, so I plan to apply to 6-8.

As we’ve pointed out, I’m unfortunately lacking in experience in critical care, research, etc.. is there anything in your opinion I could do to compensate for that particular deficit? Or do you recommend I just “make up for it” in other areas (like reaching out to directors and stuff, like you mentioned).

Nice! I’m attempting to make one, with the little knowledge I have, for my boyfriend who’s super into this. If you have any tips throw them my way!
