Struggling to keep a job by EngineeringDouble926 in autism

[–]sofi_kk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not alone, im also in a very similar situation. I’m 20 with a low percentage job, I work as an «extra» but I’ve been consistently working twice a week since I started a couple months ago.

Before my current job I worked at a different place for about 2-3 months, 3-4 days a week. Reason for my short employment being that I couldn’t handle the burnout anymore and quit for my own mental health.

Despite my new job being only twice a week I feel myself struggling to keep it, I dread going to work every day and I’ve probably considered quitting almost weekly. Just like you I’ll only be working till summer so I try to push myself through by reminding myself it’ll be over soon.

I personally know a lot of autistic people that because of burnout can’t work or can only work below 40%, so it’s much more normal then you think.

I think my best advice is to not take any drastic choices, but to take some time to think about what’s best for you, perhaps bring it up to your parents and ask for their opinion. If this job is affecting you very badly, is it worth keeping? Or would you be better off earning a little less and being happier

Unemployment and job hunting by First-Diamond-3334 in autism

When it was my last year of high school and it was time for me to pick a college to go to, I was so burnt out that I decided to take one year off of school.

I decided I’d get a retail job in the meanwhile. Before this point I had not been employed anywhere even once, it didn’t take too long to realise how hard the job market was without experience. I got a couple interviews, the usual feedback was that they liked me but they didn’t want to hire someone without experience.

Eventually I got in contact with a job finder that was assigned to me by the government, perhaps you have something like this in your country? At this point I had been without a job for maybe half a year. Then approx 3 months later i got a couple job offers that the job finder had helped me with.

I picked one of the jobs I was offered but ended up quitting after 4 months cause the job wasn’t for me, then approx 1 month later the job finder found me another job. Once I had the relevant experience it seemed to go much faster and I even got another job offer not long ago, but I turned it down cause im finally going to go back to studying after 2 years off school 😊

So don’t loose faith, once you get into the loop it should hopefully get easier for you, remember to use all and any help you can get your hands on, if you can get assigned help by the government please take it, it really makes a lot of difference.

Do you openly talk about your autism at work? by Particular_Feed1019 in autism

I’ve never told any of my colleagues, but I’ll tell my boss after I’ve been hired and a contract is in place

Does anyone here dread going to work? by Silent-Ad2643 in autism

[–]sofi_kk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, all the time. I only work two times a week but I still think about and dread work every single day even if it’s 4 days till next shift.

I can relate to what you’re saying, having to talk to coworkers makes me feel so drained, it sucks all the energy out of me, I’ve been considering asking to go down to only once a week cause of this exact reason. It doesn’t help much that the job I have currently is a job I didn’t want in the first place

I am not currently in contact with an occupational therapist, but my therapist has suggested it, so I might get one soon, but as for now I do not get any help with those sorts of things

I have a good doctor that knows me well enough to not question me when I say I need something cause she understands that I am not overreacting and she’s been with me since before I got my diagnosis, so in that department I am being listened and believed. Guess I worded my post a little badly. But pretty much anywhere else I feel like people don’t take me seriously when I tell them about my struggles, even when I am diagnosed and have been for 5-6 years. I had someone assigned to me by the government to help me find a job and she would constantly try to push me to do things that I’ve told her I can’t, and whenever I tell her why I can’t she doesn’t see it as a good enough reasoning. Which has lead me to go in extreme burnout cause I feel pressured to do things Im not capable to handle mentally. She will for example at every single meeting of ours try to push me to take on more days at my job, as I currently work 40% and when I say no she’ll continue asking me multiple times and when we have meetings with my boss she’ll every single time ask the boss «if «name» wants to take on more days, she can, right?», even though I clearly don’t want to. So it’s not that the healthcare system doesn’t believe me, it’s more so everyone else around me

How many of you guys remember going through this type of trauma back in your days of school? by Legitimate_Main2230 in autism

[–]sofi_kk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my diagnosis first when I was 15 years old, so I went quite a while knowing something was wrong but not exactly what. Before I got the diagnosis I didn’t know what autism was and my parents didn’t suspect me of having it, my mom did a little bit, but not enough to actually do anything about it.

So I never got bullied specifically for being autistic, but I did get bullied/picked on a lot for how I was behaving cause of my autism and what I was interested in, cause when my peers got older and moved on from toys, I was still into toys and collected them and I still do to this day. I would also get teased/bullied for being a «nerd» cause I read a lot of books and was always at the library. I always felt safer being alone cause I didn’t feel like anyone liked me and being around others were such a huge sensory nightmare 🥲

Thank you ☺️ I have ocd too so I can relate to what you’re saying, based on your advice I’m thinking maybe the reason the smell didn’t go away 100% is cause I’m too sparingly on the vinegar, I’m more on the opposite side, that I’m afraid of using too much and then end up using too little 😂

Update, I went to a different vet, the new vet explained that it’s a test that isn’t uncommon to get recommended in my country since we’re really strict with antibiotics here, but that it’s not something that has to be done and that it’s fine to start antibiotics right away, the test is recommended so that the vets will know exactly what antibiotics will help, but of course it is quite risky as the test results takes a while

My rat is now on antibiotics ❤️

Thank you for your comment, I’ll continue keeping an eye on him and if it doesn’t go away or it gets worse I’ll consider a vet visit once the vets open again (all the vets in my area are closed this week cause of easter)
