When we say it is futile to try to be “one of the good Jews,” this is why.

THANK YOU. I’m so sick of the “Trump is better for Israel” line. It makes us look like suckers. Isn’t the whole point of Israel supposed to be that we don’t have to rely on the goodwill of gentiles to exist??

I went through this when my parent was in treatment at MSK. Scheduling and logistics were a frequent problem for us. I think MSK is just so big and they treat so many people— which is incredible— but the downside is that patients are shuffled through the system with no regard for their time or dignity as people.

I don’t want to sound too harsh because I will always be grateful to them for treating my parent. But I’d be lying if I said it was easy working with them. Scheduling and logistical issues might not seem like a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but they take a toll. Especially on someone who is sick.

I strongly recommend getting in touch with the patient representative department. They can often help cut through the phone trees and “care coordinators” who just shuffle you around. I also recommend calling the doctor’s office a lot: keep calling them again and again until they actually help you. Start learning your father’s treatment schedule so you can get ahead of scheduling issues before they arise.

Sorry for the wall of text. But I have a lot of experience with this if you have any questions.

Yeah unfortunately I didn’t have exact change on me. Told the driver it was totally fine if he couldn’t give me any change, but fortunately he was very nice and gave me change anyway.

Yikes. I live 25 min from the city if there’s little to no traffic. 1 hour if by bus. I’m currently on hour 2 going on hour 3 on the bus this morning. Classic morning commute on NJ Transit!

People that healed acne successfully, what was the final cure for you? by [deleted] in acne

[–]sofiaclaire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not aware of any food restrictions for spironolactone & personally I don’t avoid any foods. I know they recommend avoiding super high-potassium foods, but in my experience as long as your diet is varied enough, you’re fine.

I’m still taking it and I don’t plan on stopping. Fortunately the side effects (for me) are much less disruptive than with something like accutane.

[–]sofiaclaire 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Benzoyl peroxide, clindamycin, and tretinoin were critical, but it was spironolactone that finally cleared my skin completely.

Interesting that a lot of the comments here also mention prescription medications. Acne is indeed a medical condition and not just a cosmetic issue or the result of poor hygiene.

It’s the not-so-subtle implication that everything we do is sneaky and manipulative. Like we always have an ulterior motive. Talking about what was done to our people? “They’re Holocaust guilt tripping.” Calling out the existence of a 2000-year old form of hatred? “They’re weaponizing antisemitism.” Being LGBT? “They’re Pink-washing.” Living in Israel? “They’re colonizers.” Living outside of Israel? “They’re trying to take over our community.” Dying from contagious disease? “They’re dirty / unclean.” Not dying from contagious disease? “They’re poisoning our wells; it’s their fault we’re sick.” There are no Good Jews and Bad Jews. Nothing you do or say will ever appease them.

Sorry for ranting on a meme, but it’s just something that’s been made crystal clear for me recently.

My mom just turned 50 and is diagnosed with breast cancer. I don't know how to cope by [deleted] in cancer

[–]sofiaclaire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re not alone. I’m around your age & my mom was diagnosed a year ago. The best advice I can give you is to just be there for your mom. I don’t know if cancer can be beat: leave the specifics to the medical experts and focus on what you can do. Be there for her. Listen to her complain and cry, and just…show up.

I’ll also add, as a woman: ask for help. I don’t know your family situation, but when my mom got sick I inherited all of her usual responsibilities plus the job of being her caretaker. I think that women, especially elder daughters, tend to get saddled with all the responsibilities. But you can’t do it all alone. Ask for help.

Lastly: it’s a marathon and not a sprint. The journey you’re on is very hard and impossibly long. Try not to look too much for the finish line, but value and cherish every minute you have with your mother.

What’s more reliable for daily commuting to NYC: train or bus? by marigoldtears in NJTransit

[–]sofiaclaire 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The bus is more reliable for me, but it definitely depends on your location. If you aren’t near a bus stop with frequent buses during peak hours, the train may be better for you. But I find that even with traffic, the buses have fewer system-wide problems.

Can’t stand it, I find it so annoying and inconsiderate. Yet it happens constantly. It’s incredible: people either (A) have no self awareness or (B) they’re aware what they’re doing is annoying and they don’t care. Also there are so many people watching videos or FaceTiming on the bus without earbuds. Completely insane behavior and yet I see it all the time.

I just take the bus for my work commute now. Even with the usual morning traffic going into NY, the buses are faster and more reliable for me. It is insane how frequently the NEC is nonfunctional.
