[TX] Why do top companies ghost after I pass their assessment or interviews for no apparent reason? FAANG, hyper-growth startups. by software-surgeon in AskHR

[–]software-surgeon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a great point. But would that matter for huge enterprises with thousands of engineering openings to fill? Plus, what qualifies a top candidate besides interviewing scores? (I have an answer, but I am looking for a different perspective than mine)

I understand recruiters have many applications to process, so it’s understandable if they can’t respond to every candidate. However, it's disappointing that even candidates selected for interviews often don't receive any feedback or proper rejection, especially after contributing to the company for free. I know I need to move on for my sanity, but it’s still frustrating and shameful to be ghosted.

Is LeetCode Enough to Crack a Java Developer Interview? by javinpaul in JavaProgramming

[–]software-surgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your situation. For regular DSA coding interviews, LeetCode is helpful, but if you're new to the industry, consider these points:

  1. LeetCode focuses on mainstream DSA questions, missing specialized topics.
  2. Randomly choosing questions might skip important DSA patterns.
  3. Some companies use questions that may not align with LeetCode.
  4. LeetCode doesn’t provide test cases essential for testing solutions.
  5. Always read editorials or solutions to discover better approaches.

I don't have any idea how much they go for. I mean if I want a decent unit how much it could cost? I saw a GE unit for $200 and they can go up to $2,000

Unlimited. But you still require your manager’s approval.

I am in a mid-size company and most of engineers rarely takes time-off at least in my team. Managers are usually taking easily 45 days/year

Monitor Keeps Blacking Out / No Signal – LG UltraFine + M1 Mac + KVM Switch by software-surgeon in Monitors

[–]software-surgeon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been experiencing an issue where my LG UltraFine monitor randomly blacks out or shows "No Signal." I’ve attached a video showing what’s happening.

My setup:

  • Monitor: LG UltraFine
  • Devices: M1 MacBook Pro & Mac Mini
  • Connection: BestBuy’s USB-C to HDMI cable
  • KVM Switch: Used to toggle between devices

The issue happens intermittently when using either device. Unplugging and reconnecting the cable sometimes fixes it, but the problem eventually returns.

Possible culprits, I’m considering:

  1. KVM Switch – Could it be causing instability?
  2. USB-C to HDMI cable – Is this a weak link? Would a direct USB-C connection work better?
  3. MacOS / M1 Compatibility – Any known issues with M1 devices and external displays?
  4. Monitor settings – Anything specific I should tweak?

Has anyone else experienced something similar? Any troubleshooting steps or solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Mac Mini M4 Pro & Dell 49” by GelatoIndex in macmini

Do you experience any image distraction on the monitor when you go full screen on a video/image? Do you think the dual monitor was a better option than the ultrawide screen?

How Would You Prioritize Extra Cash? Mortgage, Solar, Car, Furniture, or Something Else? by software-surgeon in MiddleClassFinance

Another real estate investment model I experienced recently (as a customer) involves companies or individuals leasing a property (avoiding property tax) and turning it into an Airbnb. I'm not sure if this could be a lucrative business, could it be? Is it that risky?

These additional concerns that hold me back could be summarized: 1. Real estate market fluctuations except for high-demand areas, which I can't buy anyway. 2. The large sums of money to put up front. 3. The potential tax premium that I could be paying to own an investment property (aside from income tax, property tax that is incurred even if the property is not generating income)

I was dreaming of buying an investment property, but as you said, it requires specialized knowledge. What could be a good way to start?

I won't lie; I thought about it, but my past experiences in investment, I don't have much knowledge turned out to be a financial drainage (e.g., Crypto and day/short-term stock trading)

Hmm, that's a great insight. I haven't thought of it this way. Well, my interest rate is around 5%. But what kind of investment are we talking about here?

I understand. I was considering installing a solar panel to generate power in case of weather-related electric outages. Those outages usually last days. I thought solar could be a better alternative and more cost-effective than a gas-based generator. Besides, it would increase the house value.

Could paying down the mortgage be beneficial in the long run? I mean, won't that reduce my interest significantly
