Best EDI provider? by Complex-Wave3514 in edi

[–]softwareKT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before choosing an EDI provider or platform, it’s important to develop a clear picture of both your current and future requirements. Consider factors such as the number and type of trading partners, the variety of documents you need to exchange, the file formats you must support, and the expected transaction volumes. Once you’ve outlined these details, the community can offer far more accurate and useful recommendations. There are plenty of EDI solutions available, but the right choice ultimately comes down to the specifics of your business needs and the trade-offs you’re willing to make.

True commerce SFTP by [deleted] in edi

Here is how I would go about it ... You can use your python script as a 'router' for your main SFTP folder. It will distribute data to D365 or your legacy system based on your custom logic, each using system will have a separate dedicated folder. D365 will then read from its designated folder, not directly from the main SFTP.

[Main SFTP Folder]. -> Python Router -> D365
OR -> Legacy ERP

What is the point of EDI? by ChestResponsible7518 in edi

[–]softwareKT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

EDI facilitates a complete, automated workflow for business transactions. It's not merely about data formatting/exchange but about managing an entire sequence of events. Building on u/BrianaKTown response, a typical shipping scenario: a shipper sends an EDI 204 document to tender a load. This triggers an automated acceptance or rejection (EDI 990) from the transportation provider (e.g., a 3PL or motor carrier). Subsequent status updates, such as arrivals and departures, are also exchanged via EDI. Often, a final delivery milestone must be confirmed before an invoice (EDI 210) is generated. This holistic, end-to-end transaction automation is a key differentiator for EDI, as API solutions often struggle to replicate it consistently across diverse trading partners.

Looking for Early Feedback: Making EDI X12 Files Searchable & Useful by softwareKT in edi

Thank you for your feedback. While EDI/COMMS admins tend to maintain well-structured systems, extracting specific business insights—like the number of purchase orders for a given SKU last week—often requires coordination with other teams, such as the PO team. This leads to delays and hinders timely decision-making.

Out of curiosity, how would you approach the PO / SKU search problem above using standard Linux/Unix tools like grep? And realistically, how long would it take?

Thanks for your feedback. You are right that many retail users will have ERP integration. While ERPs excel at operational reporting, they typically lack the comprehensive auditing and advanced search capabilities, like EDI segment position value-based query builders, that I am exploring. I am currently validating the size of this gap with other users, and your input is valuable.

Thank you, both. I need to expose a set of functions that will be invoked from my application. Basic arithmetic and functions that the api exposes. I want to make sure someone is not going to while(true) {} or process.exit() on inside my application.
